It depends. It's most likely that he's not on the original engine which was carberated and only made about 190hp. Who knows what he might have under that hood. He might smoke the heck out of you.

My neighbor has an 80's mustang that runs low 13s, but you wouldn't think it would.

They are not that fast with just a K&N and Flowmasters. A new Cam and headers then bye bye. Tell him to line up and then find out. BTW, I don't condone street racing.

The 80's Rustangs had the REAL 5.0L V8 engines... not like the cheesy 4.6L engines of present...

Our Max has a chance against the 4.6, but the 5.0 are beasts... with very few mods, those Rustangs can fly... especially if it is a notchback LX (which was lighter and faster than a GT)...

I have torched no less than three 5.0 Mustangs in the 100% stock '98 Maxima I had.

They are only beasts with the right bolt ons. And stock for stock the 4.6's run circles around the 5.0's .

I would take a late 80's Rustang LX 5.0 and match it against a stock Rustang GT with the 4.6 and love to prove that theory wrong.

Go get one and try.

And good luck finding a stock late 80's LX.

I don't think the 84 engine was even an H.O. series. Non H.O. heads are choking. You should smoke it.

Dude...you're wrong on this one. I race/drive Mustangs weekly. Stock 260hp 4.6L's can easily hit 13.9 dead stock. The stock 5.0L's will NOT do that. They'll hit 14.3's...MAYBE 14.2's.

(stock vs. stock, drivers being equal)

I agree. Besides, the 1984 GT wasnt even the fastest Mustang that year. If I'm not mistaken, the 2.3L Turbo 4 cylinder SVO was quicker and faster.

The best thing to compare too is actually the '91 - '92 LX 5.0 . They were the quickest /fastest of the 5.0's . 225hp and lighter than the '93 Cobra at 235hp.

There is a big difference.
Quicker - 1/4 mile, 0-60
Faster - top speed

I had a 1984 Mustang LX 5.0 Convertible (auto, I was 16) and it was not that fast at all. I also had a 1992 LX 5.0 Convertible (auto again, I know) and it was definately faster than the 84 of course, but still not really fast. I also had a 1996 GT Convertible with the 4.6L 5-spd (finally) and it would run rings around both of the other two. Of course that may have been because of the 5-spd... If the guy is stock, you would walk away from him.

just my $0.02...
