i was at a stop light when a harleydavidson pulls up behind me.the light turns green and i pull away then i hear loud exhaust so i floor it ,we where side by side till maybe 75 mph .i decided to let him go. i then turned off. i just thought it was funny my jap. car just about beat an american motorcycle(i let him go).hehehe .i think it was a 1000 or 1200 sportster.

 

I hate it when one of those LOUD motorcycles ride next to me while I have my windows down. I swear if I had kep driving next to it for more than 5min I would lose my hearing. So usually I just let them pass me or get away from them as far as I can.

 

HD's are pigs....in the world of 2 wheel performance....if some one gave me one..I would sell it.

Resale is GREAT ...However..

The HD v-rod, which I think is the coolest design in any bike, ever, can go 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. The rest are usually 0-60 in low to mid 6 seconds. Beating one of those is not a big accomplishement, they weren't built for acceleration, they are cruiser bikes. You can pat yourself on the back when you can beat a 'Busa.

I've been driving a crotch rocket for 4 years now, two family members have HDs, and I'd take the HDs for cruising any day. I can't stay on my Katana longer than 40 minutes without getting numb hands and a sore back. 0-60 in the blink of an eye is really cool at first, but when it comes down to it, I just want to ride around, or maybe I'm just getting old.

 

No kidding. It makes no sense to me that loud music is punishable(which I agree with), but a Harley that you can hear about 8 blocks away is OK. I hate them.

You do know of course that they don't sound loud stock. People put loud pipes on them just the same as they put loud fartpipes on Hondas.

 

It's not the exhaust design that's patented, it's the sound They have several designs in their exhaust setups, but they all provide the same "sound".

 

I don't know if I'd like to date women who like HARLEYS Always seem like big rednecks to me...anyway, if you want a touring bike, get a BMW, or Goldwing!

 

I just sold my 1100 Katana this winter....as i got older..it was more and more uncomfortable...and the Katana is a rather Non-lean-over kind of sport touring bike. I have to agree with your 40 min mark...but over the 10 years or so that I had and abused it .....The only thing I had to replace was the battery. I could leave it sit for 8 months...and know..it will fire up when i get around to it.

Harleys are all noise and no action; unlike a Busa which is no noise and alot of WHOOPASS!!!!!

 

Last I noticed, most Harley owners are not into WHOOPASS... at least, not while ON their bike, anyway. Not like a Harley guy is going to participate in a street race against a crotch rocket (Busa or not).

Harley riders are into 'riding'... something that crotch rockets searching for "whoopass" will never understand.

i hate harleys!! i have much respect for them, but when i hear someone drive by in them i want to hit them with my car. they are so annoying. but then again so are crotch rockets, but the crotch rocket is generally much much cheaper

as far as girls go...... i dont believe i would want to date a girl that was all into harleys, general population of them are old, or trashy.(dont mean to steriotype but its the d*mn truth) and if you want an automobile that is going to get lots of very attractive girls...... nothing better the good ol' BMW!!

I also can't stand HDs. I don't know if the exhaust pipes are that loud stock or not, but EVERY SINGLE HD that I see has the loud *** exhaust on it. On top of that, I hear/see some of them riding late at night with that exhaust howling all through the neighborhood. It just ****es me off.

I'd have to disagree about the chicks digging HDs. From what I've seen, I'd never date a girl who's into HDs.

Sports bikes, on the other hand, definitely attract girls (nice ones too). I have several friends with sport bikes, and I've seen the bikes in action (picking up girls).

Personally, I'd love to get my hands on a Gixxer 750. Oh well, maybe in the near future...

Yeah Harley's are very slow. 0-30 or so he would have kicked your butt b/c they are heavy enough in the front end taht you can go WOT from idle unlike your GSXR which needs to be babied in 1st gear or you flip.

I was thinking about buying a used Katana, smaller one prolly. Is there something that I should know about them?

 

I have only driven the 1100...I do not know..nor have I heard any negatives about the bike. It is a mix of both worlds..you get a higher level of comfort than you would from a GSX-R while still maintaining the sport bike look and strong motor. I am not sure..but, insurance is probably a bit lower on them too

Amen brotha, I was doin 160 mph and a Busa blew by me like I was chained to a fence. Harleys are nice for crusing around, but that's about it. I do have respect for them though....

If you are wearing proper gear and in the proper environment (like a road racing course) there is no road rash at all. You need to wtach the super sports to see that most times when you dump it at high speed you get up and want to keep riding but the bike is damaged-not you. Those speed are usually safer on a bike than in a car anyways. If you knew anything about sportbikes you'd understand

 

It is not safe to ride at those speeds with gear on either, gear won't save you on the road (racetrack different story) at 160 or better. If you have control over youre bike and there is an open stretch with no visible cars or other hazards then you just pin it, tuck and go! It is just a risk YOU take while having some fun

I ride a 2002 Dyna Defender, and my wife despises it. If it were up to her, I'd never get on a bike again.

 

My parents weren't thrilled when I bought it, and were less thrilled when I crashed it. My girlfriend really does not like it at all. My dad is a cop, and I will be one within a couple years, so now I know how important safety is on two wheels. If you lack maturity, bikes aren't for you
