Maxspeed spring opinions.

I installed the Sprint springs on my stock struts. IMO, the ride is a little too rough. Therefore I am thinking about buying some Maxspeed springs. I know the drop won't be as afressive but I need a little more forgiving ride. Is everyone happy with their choice? Is the ride really close to stock?

I can't say enough about how much I LOVE my maxspeed/GR-2 combo...

if you get the maxspeeds, I'd say get the GR-2's also...much less stiff than stock and no float

only thing I'd give up is because the spring rate is so high, when you hit dips in the road, and you're going like let's 70+, you are airborne from your seat and you hit ur head against the roof, and if your sunroof is open, your head will go through it!

why?? its the truth....2k2nyc has that problem also with his H&R/Tokico setup...

I'm guessing its just a lowering spring in general type of thing..

but we both commented on it yesterday when I took pix of his new rims

very....just like I said...hit a dip (not bump) in the road at a decent rate of speed and prepare to feel like James Bond or Knight Rider

Will I need to trim the bumpstops? If so, how much?

I put Maxspeeds on a 2K SE with stock struts, but had a rear one blow almost immediately (it was probably bad to begin with). I put GR2's in last weekend, and there was a huge improvement, but I'm still bottoming in the rear on some dips. The problem is especially bad with people in the back seat.

I'm not sure if this is normal for a dropped car, but it's bugging the hell out of me.

I went ahead and bought them. If anyone wants some sprint springs let me know. I just really think that you need new struts with them.

Honestly I will have to ride in a Max wit Teins before I believe it. I see firsthand how stiff a car is with a 1.8" drop. I am scared of the 2.2" drop. It does look sweet though.

I got Maxspeeds on stock struts, and it rides ok...it definitely makes sense to upgrade your shocks as well, regardless of what spring you go with.

well..i seen all pics..eibachs, H&R, maxspeeds. the teins OWN all. I didnt want the lowest drop, just the most equal. HAve you seen the guys on 19s with eibachs and maxspeeds>? yeah, i have and i am not impressed. MOst guys on any other spring want to cut a coil or 2 want the best drop..get teins...i will say no more...

If you had it to do over again, would you still do the Maxspeeds on stock struts or just stay stock?

Get struts too! Knock it all out at once. You need a stiff strut to control a stiff spring. A stock strut will get thrashed by a aftermarket spring.

Just my $.01 worth......

Well I am one of those, and have rolled on Maxspeeds/stock struts on 19's for a couple months now. I just ordered Tein springs for 2 reasons: I still have slightly uneven wheel gap, and it's not low enough.

If I had to do it all over again, I would've gone with Tein's to begin with. I refuse to buy struts yet, because there are no adjustable ones made for my 2002, directly from the manufacturer (yet). If and when they come out, I will get them...

see its simple here...the people who want a slammed look, go for the lowest dropped spring, ie the teins....the people who want just a drop from stock, but don't want to sacrifice ride comfort go with maxspeeds.

Its a simple concept to grasp......

Teins are too low for NYC streets and streets alike that have alot of bumps and/or potholes....

get H&Rs, they are suppose to be the same performence as Maxspeeds, only less drop(thus more clearance) and more softer/comfortable on the road. basicly, i bet if you combine H&R with KYB GR2, you would get the most comfortable ride. not a nice drop, but here in boston you dont really want a drop with all the roads and the winter.

i "grasp the concept" i just want a basis for comparison, that is all. i want a nice drop as i do a fair amount of highway driving and i wander into the suburbs a bit (and i'll probably throw on a set of 225/45/17's on my GLE rims for asthetic purposes). as for comfort, i liked the firm ride of the sport 330s and A4s, even in the city. i wouldn't mind something a little stiffer. what do you guys think, would eibachs, maxspeeds, or something else serve me best?

why would you go and do a stupid thing like that?? the tires are way out of spec for the car.....and how would this improve the aesthetics of the car??? you like the thin sidewall look????

45 series should be used for 18's, 17's need 50 or 55 series especially if you want comfort and wheels that aren't bent

what's our minimum weight rating? yes, my GLE rims are 6.5 inches, so it's out of spec by half an inch. i probably would have just gone with 215/50/17s otherwise (.4 inch difference in diameter). i do like the thin sidewall look. i know tons of cars that have 2xx/45/17 stock tires.

buddy of mine has a 2k1 passat, with 225/45/17s, and hate to keep bringing it up, but another friend of mine has a stock sport A4 - 235/45/17s. both live in boston and neither have had issues with bent rims.

if there is something that i'm missing, please fill me in.

what ur missing is the wheelwells on our maximas are huge, and they should be filled up...I dunno maybe its me, maybe its my surroundings but my impression is to fill them up without rubbing....

do what you want, its your car but to me, 45 series is too low for 17's....when I replace my stock 225/50's im going 235/50 or 225/55, whichever is cheaper and has the brand of tire I want

i know what you mean - even with the drop, there may be a lot of space around the SIDES of the tire. i was looking at pics of 245/40/18s (roughly the same diameter tire as 225/45/17), and it didn't look bad at all. whatever i do, i'll be sure to post pics.

so does ANYONE know how eibachs, h&r's, maxspeeds or anything else would compare to the ride of a sport A4? i mean, is it that dumb of a question?

Who needs your opinion? Just cause you got the fancy H&Rs and Toks doesn't mke you better than me.

Just kidding. I know you just don't want to have to help me do the install a 3rd time down the road.

If they are the same performance and I can save $100 with maxspeeds, it makes my decision easy.

I think my 235/45 17 look awesome on my stock wheels. I get major compliments from anyone who sees it. I do agree that a drop is needed or there is a huge gap.

The ride on teins is great! The car is not floaty, and is not too low IMO> I live in NY, travel to the city, and have no problems. I was just in the bronx today! As for more pics, check out this thread..

As for the ride being like an A4 sport, yes it is a silly question,
but i would think any aftermarket suspension would ride stiffer than any factory suspension..

I love the look of your drop... I think you made my decision on what to get.. I was in NY last weekend and I'll have to agree the roads there weren't the greatest.. Couple of question.. When you install your struts/springs did you have to cut your bump stops?? With Eibach springs thats what they said to do in the instruction.. Did you have any problems getting an alignment with the 2.2 inch drop without getting Alignment Kit?? Thanks for all the info.. Much appreciated...

I only cut the front bumpstops, becuase of the low drop. the rears i left alone. I have not taken the car in for an alignment yet, might do it this weekend. IF i have any problems, i'll post about it. The car drives just as straight when it was new, so i dont think i need an alignment, but i'll check just to be safe.
