I think my water pump is going out. For about a week there has been a strong antifreeze smell especially after driving for awhile. The engine temp gauge seems higher then normal. This morning my SES light came on. What should I expect to pay to get it replaced? I was thinking of doing it myself but dam there is not much room in there.

 

Well man, on my 8 year old 3000GT, that little operation cost me $1400 dollars. Good luck!! I would think half of that since I believe I got screwed.

 

I replaced the one on my Jeep myself. The pump was about $100. But that was a whole diffirent story. It was pretty easy but there was lots of room. And it didnt have power steering or AC so there was alot less to mess with in the area. I will get someone to run the code to see if that is what it is.

 

Well I found out why the SES light was on. Code P0217 - high engine temp. I looked and there was coolant around the engine but I cant figure out where it is coming from. It is on the front of the engine so I dont think it is the water pump. Im going to go check more today to see where the leak is.

 

Ok it is a bad water pump after all. It started squeaking/grinding yesterday. I called the dealership and it is covered by the powertrain warranty. THANK GOD!!!
