alright well i went down to 2 muffler shops today...first i went to midas and let me say...don't go there...the guy was a jackass and told me faulty info...basically he said that my car doesn't have a resonator, it has 2 mufflers on 1 pipe and that only some cars have resonators...he then asked me which muffler i wanted to remove...i told him that i know plenty of people that have taken the resonator off and i told him that the resonator was what he thought the front muffler was...he told me that i didn't know what i was talking about and that he has been working in this business for 25 years and i shouldn't tell him stuff about mufflers...i then just wanted to see a price estimate and he said it would be about 1.5 hours of labor and materials totaling $150...people on these boards were saying $30
so then i called and went to this other shop that does a lot of different stuff w/ cars...not just mufflers...i was there for about an hour talking to them about all different things about cars...nitrous, throttle body, etc. basically the guy said that i would lose quite a bit of low end but gain a lot of high end...so i would lose accel. when i am just cruising and gain a lot of top end...is this all true? would it be a noticable difference...i asked him about 1/4 mile times and he said it should go up by about .1 or .2 secs...this shop was charging $75-$80 for just a steel pipe (not stainless)...i'm seriously considering this because here in arizona there aren't many other places to go...where can i go for $30? is this true about the accel? do you notice the difference?

Start calling around to performance shops and get some referrals to REPUTABLE muffler shops. Call a couple of the referrals and tell them you want to remove your stock resonator. Ask them how much it will cost.
Let us know how you make out.

Burner, I have no idea where you got the idea that removing your resonator costs $30. That's absolutely unheard of, with labor on an avg of $50/hr, no one is going to do a resonator take down for that. Might as well have the entire B-Pipe made at a muffler shop

Depending on where you live, mike, you may want to use stainless steel piping instead of aluminized mild steel. Stainless steel is more expensive than aluminized mild steel, but it won't rust as easily.

An update. I was given a quote of $40.00, by a near by muffler shop. The tech said it would take approximately 1/2 hour to remove the stock resonator and replace it w/a piece of straight through pipe. When I have it done, I'll let anyone know who is interested, if I feel a STP difference and hopefully not too much interior resonance. By the way, thanks for the replies.

I removed my resonator, and it just got louder, inside the car and out the exhaust, when I switched to 2.5" B-Pipe, it got really loud, now running 2.25" somewhat quieter, but gets the job done edging out stock muffler 5th Gens, and modded 4th Gens with the Y-Pipe.
-Peace
