All I can say is WOW. The car acts completely different. I don't have the turbo lag feel anymore. It is just a contant pull now. Time to get the timing advance done now.

I don't seem to have a lag, what build dates are affected? My car was built on 12/02.

Mine felt like a slug after my update. Oh wait----maybe it's because they reset my timing to the factory 15 degrees after they flashed the ECU (bastards wouldn't advance it back up to 17 for me either.) LOL But, no more "hiccup" in acceleration!

You still haven't cracked them? Your dealer sounds nuckin' futs. Tell them how it is.

Courtesy Nissan did it for me. My service advisor is Mark Bailey. He is a great guy. I can't say enough about the way he has treated me. Much different than the typical service horror stories.

I think it is more based on your MAF sensor number. If it is one of the earlier builds and your ECU has an earlier program you qualify.

I told them I have a lag/hesitation between 2K and 3K rpm. At first they test drove it and said they didn't have the lag and Nissan would give them a hard time about replacing the MAF. I told them to just give me the ECU update and leave the existing MAF. When I took it in the next time for the update, they said the TSB said to replace my part number MAF so they ordered one. Now I have new MAF and ECU code. I feel a difference.

I'm not technical enough to know about timing, etc.

If possible to quickly explain the timing thing. if i get it set to 17 degrees, does that affect my MPG? does it directly affect RPM,etc? how about wear and tear on the engine (minimal or noticible)??

What I am referring to is ignition timing (point at which the spark plugs are fired to ignite the air/fuel combination.) Advancing timing on most cars under most conditions will slightly increase power output---this will in turn require higher octane fuel. If advanced too far for the octane of fuel in the car, it will "ping" or knock, which (on most newer cars) will be sensed by the knock sensor, which will in turn cause the ECU to retard your timing to prevent the "ping" (which in turn decreases power.) This will not affect your MPG or RPMs. Perfectly safe--no extra wear on the motor (as long as you're not pinging.)

Hope that helps....

Go to bed. Don't you have to work tomorrow? Good explanation. I look forward to seeing if my Butt Dyno notices an increase once it is done.

Wait, did you pay him to get the TSB done? What can I do if my dealer refuses to fix my car?

I have auto 2003 SE.
I brought it in for the update yesterday. well i pick it up and their is a sheet saying they have to order the Mass airflow sensor along with the part number of the ECU. Well according to the TSB mine should only have the update done and no parts. Well i drove away and noticed a difference. They must have done the ecu update but ordered the part. Very smooth when you let off the gas. The RPM's go down slowly and smoothly. The car used to feel like it was in 2nd when you left off the gas. very abrupt drop in RPM's or like hitting the brake. As far as acceleration it does feel better but i haven't had time to fully test it. But i have to call the dealer and see what is going on.

Will a new MAF help? even if it is not required?

Well it has been a few days. ALL I can say is that the car runs awesome. Go and get this done. Unbelievable that a software upgrade can change the car so much.

I totally agree. The change is noticeable. It runs more smoothly up the RPM. There should be absolutely no charge to perform this update. It is a TSB. That means a known, Nissan admitted issue.

Maybe mine is different cause its a 2k3, but mine ran the same before and after the flash, only no "hiccup" after (and then there's the timing issue I mentioned earlier.)

I agree. I didn't notice that much difference when I first got back in the car, but after a few days...wow...it feels MUCH better.

How Do You Know?

Hi everyone,
I have a 2002 I35 that was made on 8/01. The hesitation has always been there so I just thought it was normal. What I really dont like is the vibrations in my feet and the steering wheel at idle and when I come to a stop. So my question is, does my car apply for this fix and second, will the fix solve the vibration problem? Also, how hard is it to persuade a dealer to do the TSB?
Thank you

I had it done and I believe mine was built 12/01. So, yes, your car probably does apply for the fix. As far as the vibration goes - I've never experienced that, so I can't say whether it'll help or not.

My dealer was very helpful with the TSB. I told them I had mentioned the hesitation when I first got the car, and that they told me nothing could be done, and that recently I came across the TSB# and description and would like to have the fix performed. They were very nice about it - they had to order the MAF sensor and called me as soon as it came in.

I was very pleased.

Just had my TSB done there. Talk to Steve the service manager there and tell him that you need this done. They have done many updates and know what your talking about. Windsor Nissan in Hightstown NJ. off of RT 130. Phone #609-448-1411. Check them out good guys. Don't go to Freehold Nissan all they will do is give you the runaround.

Mine is early built 7/01 and needs the MAF replacement but 2 dealers would not even replace them. Anyone in S. Cal can recommend a dealer that does it?

Took my car today to the dealership for the hesitation fix. They just called me and said that the MAF needs to be replaced also. What sucks is that it's backordered and the tech said it's better to re-program the ECU and replace the MAF at the same time. Anyone have an idea of how backordered the MAF's are?

I got mine done maybe a month ago, and I think it took them a week to get one for me.
