Clear lense for spoiler brake light

I remember seeing a How-to on installing a clear rear spoiler brake light lense somewhere either on here or on a user's homepage but I can't find it now. I don't remember it being as easy as unscrewing the lens and swapping it, there was more involved to it than that, but when I look at the bottom of mine there are 4 screws right on the bottom of the lens that I could probably take out with a small swivel head screwdriver. I'm thinking maybe the How-to was written for a 2k-2k1 and the 2k3s are different? Has anyone done this to their 2k2-2k3 and if so was it just those 4 screws that you had to take out? Where did you buy the clear lense and red bulbs? Thanks.

Are you sure this wouldn't be illegal? Would suck to put time and effort into this just to get pulled over the first time you hit the brakes.

Thanks, maybe that's where I saw it. Very funny too. Not to get into another whole thing about this, but I did my oil this past weekend and didn't get one drop on my hands. If you do it right (press in on the drain plug while unscrewing until it is 100% out, pull away quickly) there is no need for gloves even with warm oil.

Honestly I'm not sure, I thought it would be legal if I put red LED bulbs under the clear lense but I guess I should check into that first. Thanks.

Laws vary from state to state, but most say you have to have red reflectors on the back of your car. Your stock 2k2+ tails fulfill this req. The clear spoiler LED still glows red when brakes are applied, it just has a clear lens. Shouldn't be illegal anywhere.

I live in PA so I'm trying to find our laws regarding this right now. I think I remember reading that you need 3 red reflectors on the back of the car...meaning the spoiler LED would also need a red lense. But I'm not sure where I read this or if it was even for PA. The question is...would the average cop know this and be looking for it? Probably not, but I can see it getting added once you were already pulled over for something else. And after looking at KPazzo's writeup on doing it it's probably a little more involved than I'm looking to get into. It's too bad someone doesn't make an LED to match our OEM screw holes and wire locations. It really looks cool on a white car.

As long as it has red bulbs in it you should be fine.
The new Lexus convertible has a clear third brake light. I had the link to the place he bought the light from , I will see if I can find it.

I found the link to the light on KPazzo's homepage. Not bad either, it was only around $25. But none of the screw holes or wires line up nicely with the OEM ones so you need to shave off tabs on the light itself and drill holes in the spoiler to make it fit. Not sure if I want to get into drilling my spoiler.

Come on custommaxima.com...make me something that fits like the OEM one!

It's definitely not illegal, however that's not to say a cop won't pull you over just to harass you for it. I think it's all about attention, the more you "personalize" the more cops want to mess with you.....

There was a writeup with a URL linked to a great site that had a lot of information... I'll try to find it. Either way... it would definitely be ILLEGAL according to federal law.

It would also be a 'look at me' for the cops.

The Mazda 6 also has a clear spoiler led on it. As long as it lights up red I dont think it would be a problem.
