I bought my '03 Max about 2 months ago and have under 5000 miles on it. Within the last week the car has had a rough idle. Also, on startup the car revs to about 2000 rpm's and makes a terrible noise. The SES light has not come on. Any ideas? I'll probably take it over to the dealer sometime this weekend. One more thing. Its not the gas because I've gone through two tanks from different stations and no change. Thanks in advance for the help.

 

This behavior is normal for the 3.5. Most everyone's engine idles slightly unevenly. The bad noise is either the oil filled valve lifters filling with oil or the timing chain. Do a search on these topics and you will find the info.

 

i have 03 maxima se. first week i had it the check engine like came on. did what manual said to do .it did not work took it back to dealer .two times. watch out sometimes all they do is reset light and tell you some b/s.after 250 mile the light came back again.they did not want to take the time to go through the check list .finally i took it to an another dealer . friend of my wife. they went through the list took them all day and finally found the problem small vacum leak. they said the leak was so small it ha d no effect on the ride.but the computer is so senitive pickup the leak and check engine light came on.
