Afternoon boredom relief: While driving a little while ago I see a bright blue WRX coming up behind me fast. Thinking it's the same one I ran into a few weeks ago (who REALLY wanted to race - then REALLY wanted to make up for losing...), I wait for him at a stop. Sure enough, he pulls up beside me and starts revving his engine.

We go, and I'm pulling him hard...and thinking "wow, WRX's are this slow?!?" So I let off, and as he pulls up I realize it's actually a bright blue Mazdaspeed Protege (okay, so I wasn't paying attention). Oh...that explains it. Fun over, I'm proceeding on my way until he zips by flashing me the universal sign of displeasure.

As I pull up beside him at a light, he's giving me the stare. So deciding to help this guy out with his 'tude, I roll down my window and said "sorry, my bad...thought you were a WRX".

Homeboy got it, and he was ****ed - he was screaming "but I'm turbo" as I pulled away.

 

I love the "but I'm turbo" line

He must still be on stock turbo psi.. Once he throws in a bost controller it'll me a lil different

Auto, but I was "auto shifting" at the time to avoid the 1st gear early shift.

 

Mazda's turbo is only good for 170hp?? Sucks

 

Either u r lying or they guy did not know how to drive or he was auto. Stick WRX would own your max off the line, trust me on that one I tried my buddy's WRX plenty of times and he jums at least a car or two off the line and then I slowly catch up to him, but killing him from the dead stop all the way through I call

Everyone here claims how they smoke the WRX, even the autos, which is kinda funny cause those cars are pretty fast. I have a 2k2 and raced my buddy's WRX at lest 7 times and he had my each time, not by much after 70, but off the line he killed me every time. BTW my 1/4 is 14.7 so Im a decent driver.

 

I have no problem with wrx's but I haven't ran into a heavly modded one yet either.

 

xfire what year max you got and is it auto or stick?

 

I have a 2k2 auto and only with franken mid pipe and thats all, my buddy has a manual stock WRX and he pull on me every time.

 

 

It was a Mazda Protege MP3. Mazdaspeed Protege comes in only Catch Me Orange and black.

 

Make that 4 colors, none of which are blue.

 

no stock auto max should take a wrx off the line... pending the wrx driver can drive his stick. however, by reading posts on wrx races including races ive had with one, it seems wrx drivers are very inconsistent drivers and thus it goes either way each race.

 

so you think if you had a stick it would be a closer race with the wrx?

 

if i had a 6 speed and could drive it the same as the wrx driver, then any race from a roll should be won by the max. off the line the wrx still owns till about 50 mph.

 

I thought that's what his badge said, but couldn't find it on the Mazda web site so thought I was mistaken. What's the diff between the two?

Re the WRX, obviously should have clarified that I beat him from a roll, so he didn't have the advantage of the AWD launch. That's why I was going to try him from a stop (better get that launch right pal...)

 

Aren't all WRX's 'bright blue'??? Hehehe.

Seriously though, I've seen quite a few of these guys who really don't know how to drive those cars so it wouldn't surprise me if someone in a Maxima hands a WRX his a$$ every now and then. You really need to keep the revs up to get that car to perform. Most people probably don't drive like this often though.

 

But an auto Maxi can take on a 2.5 RS auto any day right?

Pulled him hard, but you'd expect a Max to do that to a 140 OR a 170 HP Protege, so...

I don't know about Max's taking WRX's... if it is two experienced driver... and the Max modded with bolt ons 2k2 against a WRX with only a boost controller and the rest all stock... let me just say, if your Max is not running 13's, then u aren't going to win...

A stock WRX with only a boost controller, and uping the PSI, you'll be killed easily... I don't want to admit it, but WRX is hands down fast, pending who is behind the Wheel....

 

I am highly confident people have been talking about stock wrx's. From a roll, unless the max driver is a total moron, there is no way he can lose to a stock wrx. It doesn't take an experienced driver then. It's all about the faster car, and AWD hurts the WRX then.

 

what I dont understand is he upgraded his turbo but ran slower I guess hes running lower boost now
