Whatever you do, don't use 80 grit sandpaper.

Polish first, put 3 layer of wax....then you will be fine.
I use Sonax polish and wax.

i use finish first wash and conditioner and then use finish first clearcoat safe polish it works woners after you get a few layers built up and then it makes the car a lot easier to wash because dirt doesnt stick near as much, also avoid any wash/polishing cloths that are anything but 100% cotton because anything other than cotton especially nylons and synthetics will put those swirl marks in your car

Re: how to remove small scratches?

Here is how you do it:

1) wash your car
2) use meguiar's scratch-X
3) use meguiar's car wax to finish up

I do the same, except that I'm not a big Meguiar's wax fan (do use Scratch-X though). I use Zymol wax (the cheap kind at Wal-Mart). After doing some research, Zymol wax came out really high, and the cheap version is just about as good as their really expensive wax.

The "washing your car" sticky has some good info.

Scratch X will not remove that stuff. If you want to get rid of them you will need to use a rotary. If you want to hide them and partically remove them you will need a porter cable and some 3M or Megs compounding material and work them out. If you want more detail e-mail me.
