Are Mods Legal if Member of Car Show?

First, let me say I am in now way advocating breaking the law.
Let me repeat that, I am in now way advocating breaking the law.

With that said, I had an interesting thought regarding the legality of some mods. For instance we know that the following mods are not technically legal:

1. Tint < ~35% (I know %'s vary by state)
2. Clear Corners
3. Y-Pipe
4. etc.

There was a big deal in my state (Alabama) several years ago when the tint laws were really put into effect. However, I saw tons of heavily modded trucks with limo tint (5%) all the way around with more than 6" on their front windshield. When I asked about this they told me they could get away with it because their truck was a "show truck" and they were part of a truck club. We're talking about Chevy S-10's, etc. They said that they weren't supposed to use the truck for everyday driving but who is going to keep track of their driving habits. Now my thought. Would this work for the Maxima? Several of the Max oweners on the Org are heavily sponsored, etc.

Without someone getting on their high horse and preaching about obeying laws and such, I was wondering if anyone really knew the answer. Can our mods be covered under the "show car" umbrella?

The catch is: "show cars" aren't driven on the streets daily. If they were, they would be ticketed just like everyone else. It's not a "show car" in the eyes of the law if it's driven daily.

I say *** the law, do what you want...Laws are meant to be broken and it's no illegal unless you get caught at it!

I think his point was "who's going to know if it's driven daily?"

I think the answer is, if you flout it you'll get caught. Drive by the same cop over and over and he's eventually going to pull you over, even if he doesn't really 'notice' that you drive by him every day. Give him your "but it's a show car" excuse and he has one of two choices...

1. ticket you anyway and let you explain it to the judge
2. don't ticket you, but you better not let him see you again because he WILL remember you

Give him an excuse and get caught in a lie later and see how much your "illegal tint" ticket can turn into.

REAL show cars are carted around on trailers to the different shows and then driven into the showplace. They can get away with 'illegal' mods because they aren't driving on the street.
