Will 225/55/17 fit?

Hello,

My stock 02 GLE tire is 215/55/17. I'm thinking getting potenza s-03 225/55/17, since they don't make 225/50/17. Does anyone has experience on this size? Will that fit my car without rubbing? Thanks.

Yes, have had that size for over 20K miles not a single problem.

E-mail me if you want a photo.

Send me your e-mail address. I don't have a homepage or anywhere else right now to post them.

I have a couple right here at the office and can turn them right around to you...

check my homepage, I've got 235/35/17 S-03's on stock rims. Sweet tire, they hook-up too good. They don't spin at all, hardly squeel in corners. The only complaint I have is that they are sooo soft, that they kick up a lot of debris from the road. Otherwise, ride quality is mint, minimal road noise, great feel.

You really got a sweet ride, MaxSE2k.
Wide tire to 235 or 245 shouldn't be a problem, but 225/55 is relatively taller than the stock, that's where my concern.

jjs, could you check your PM, please. Thanks.

Rubbing is not the issue, its speedo error. Those tires will be taller than stock, and consequently will make your speedo read lower than you are actually going. As well as make your ODO reading lower than it actually is.

You are right, E55AMG2. That's the first thing I checked when I want to go with the size.
I don't know if it applies to all, but my 2k2 speed odo read faster than it actually goes when riding on stock tires. after change to 225/55, the reading will slow around 1.6%, which is within the tolerance and hopefully it will also correct the speedo reading. although I know it's not gonna match perfectly.

btw, I saw a E55AMG on our office parking lot the other day, that was very sweet. Love it. You got one of those?

Oh, are you saying it won't rub or it doesn't matter to you? Thanks.

The E55 is my dad's. Its mega fast, he got the supercharged one a lil while back. 12.5 1/4 mile, nuff said.

If you decide to go with that tire, it will be aprox .433in taller than stock. I doubt that it will rub.

I dont recall there ever being a speedo error w/ either of my maxes. (2k1 and 2k3 SE) Here is the one sure fire way to test it. Find a stretch of straight road that goes for at least one mile, one w/ mile markers. (you need a measured mile). Set your cruise control at 60 and drive thru the mile. start your stopwatch when you (not the front of the car) pass the mile marker. Stop it when you reach the next one. If it doesnt read 60 seconds +/- a few 100th's (the time it takes your finger to press the button, etc...), you have error. If it reads less than 60, speedo reads low and vice versa. I tested my max, and couldnt find any signifigant error. Either way, good luck.
