brake pad question...

I ordered the RS4's a while ago and I remember my mechanic saying that they dont have a heat shield on them and not to put them in because the will seize the caliper. So whatever I went to Pepboys and got some crap there (i think import quiets). I did notice they had a metal heat shield on the back of the pad.

I have two questions, 1. is that heat shield a must and can you glue/paste them on to pads that dont come with it? and 2. Do the Axxis Metal Masters (which i plan on buying now) have a heat shield on them??

Here is a exerpt from an how to I have on Installing AXXIS Performance Brake Pads:

Remove both these pads just straight out the front and out the back. Remove the backing plates on the pads and put them on the new ones for the correct side. Reinstall the same way they came off. You will need to use the C clamp and push in the piston on the caliper to get it back on the new pads. Tighten everything down really tight. No need for any anti-squeal grease, due to pads on back of pads prevent this.

Hope it helps...

1. That's interesting - I was wondering what those so called shims are for? Make sense - as they'd definetely increase heat resistance of assembly in released state. I'm using R4S with shims left from my stock pads and have no issues whatsoever. I'm actually very happy with them. You have to check your pads twice a year though as they don't have "wear indicators".
2. Have no idea.
