Yeah, the 2K-2K1 Focus are pretty rough in the problem dept but like I said earlier, everyone I talked to that had either a 2K2 or 2K3 like them a lot.
I dunno...when I get the interior doesn't scream cheap..it seems more importish then lets say....yeah a Chevy Cavalier...lol...this rental is making my head turn. I never thought there could be so much difference between a Ford (Focus at least) and a Chevy (Cavalier at least). The Cav is just so cheesy and un-user friendly. I have to reach for every **** and dial and the seats are so mushy
The 2.2 does pull like a ***** though

You are right, there is no forum for the Focus like this one...I love this forum. There is one that is sort of good but doesnt hold a candle to Maxima.org

good point since so many "imports" are made is the u.s Except they are still imports since their domestic content not enough to warrant it domestic..
that probably why the new acura/honda have tranny problems..made in america...but notice not the rl since its still made in japan.

as far as not holding on to their value???? yo uare talking out of your *** right there buddy, look how much 1997 Wranglers are being sold for theses days, and when they were new they were 17K. they are still being sold for around 10-12 grand... i'd say that it holds its value better then most vehicles out there.

ok let me break it down to you. what makes a wrangler not depreciate is the 6 cylinder engine option. Everything else doesnt matter, so your roomate payed 25 grand for a wrangler that could have been had for 18 without all the options that he got. And options dont matter at all when reselling a vehicle, and matter especially less when selling a Jeep, as they are very minor. So as soon as a wrangler is sold and is considered used it jumps into used price range where they stick for at least 5+ years. For 6 cylinder's that range is 17-12.. for instance 2002's are selling around 117 grand now, while 2000-2001's are being sold for around 15 and 1997-1999 go anywhere between 12-15 depending on condiotions. 1997's have now droppped in price though since its been five years already. Its not a myth its a fact, same thing held true for the previous mode lof the wrangler.
So yea, year doesnt matter for the most part and the difference in price is very small between the years of production. That is actually very good since most people hold on to their vehicles for around 3 years for the most part.
Here is another example, my 2001 Camry XLE v6 depreciated much much much more then a standard 4 cylinder Camry LE evnethough the price difference in MSRP's was roughly 8 grand.
If your roomate really wanted to not loose a lot of money on his Jeep he should have bought the bottom of the line 6 cylinder and not the top of the line one. that's the smart buy.
Same thing with a Maxima, leather, Bose. Climate control, spoiler, bla bla bla become virtually worthless when looking at a value of a used car.
But yet we still purchase cars with the options that we want and not what the used car buyer of my cr will want 3+ years down the road when the car will be sold.
Because it is all about driver comforts and wants now not later!!! Such is life
damn, i dont even know what i started writing about

Looks like trade in is only about $14k to me. Might be more if he sold it privately.

You must have owned a 2000 or 2001. The 02-03s hang and/or beat Zs. Pretty sad IMO...I love the look on the Z guys face that speaks "how can your 4 door family car beat me!" LOL!
But, anyway, the guy traded for a focus, thats cool by me. as long as you like what you drive...

Good luck with the focus (no flame) I think they look sweet lowered with rims. Its not my style though. The bigger the car the better. New A8 awwwwww! I had one thing to say about reliability and problems with cars. There are always going to be good and bad cars with in a certain manufacture and a certain car. That is the way it goes. Everybody has seen it, some people have gone through 3 or more auto trannys on the 5 gen. I have 2k auto with almost 94K on it. NO problems what so ever with the tranny. Have tranny cooler, installed about 20k ago. TSB arent even done on it! (working on it)Replaced maf, coils, brakes, struts, Climate Control module (warranty). For a car with almost 94k thats not bad. Ow I forgot I drive my max HARD!! Manual shift all the time take to redline alot, but I change my oil (synthetic Mobil1) religiously every 3k, and have done 2 many to count tranny flushes (freind works at infiniti). There will always be good and bad stories, thats how it works. The most important thing is to do what U want to do and like, and what fits into your economical position. Everybody has there own opinion.

Meaning...the transmissions are built in Japan. They are shipped to the US and then put into the cars.

It's a good thing the Focus svt has a different engine!

It was such a great car other than all the stupid little things that went wrong every other month.
Consumer Reports and reliability
Back to Consumer Reports and reliability. The Focus pretty has bad reliability (used to be horrible). Out of small cars, it's got the worst reliability of all cars in that category. 2000 and 2001 model years had worse than average reliability, but the 2002 has improved to average.
Compare that to the Maxima where EVERY year got better than average, which also got the best reliability rating in the "family cars" category.
I wouldn't call these reliability ratings "opinions". They're based on stats from annual surveys sent out to readers. Sure, you can go ignore CR's opinions if you think they're bunk. But to me, they're a lot less biased (not saying that they're more valid though) than most of the other car mags out there which accept advertising and have manufacturers provide them press cars. Also, who knows what kinda perks the editors/reviewers at most car mags get.

I knew the 4 letter word that begins with "F" would spark some noise lol
I actually have owned all of the big import 3, Nissan, Honda and Toyota. Actually the Accord I had really soured me on Honda.....noisy as heck lifters, big time crap rotors and my windshield was not sealed correctly at the top so it sounded like a banshee howling at highway speeds
I thought about a Civic but I do not like the driving position....I feel way too cramped in the Civic plus I wasn't going to touch a Civic with the options I wanted for 11.4k. The Focus has everything except leather. I guess even if I could get a Civic at that price the uncomfortableness of it would make it an automatic no.
The room in the Focus is incredible for such a small car. I sit in a more upright position which does wonders for my bad back....I almost feel like I'm in captains chairs.
Like I said I got raped at the dealer. Kelly Blue Book for my car was 7900. I got 7600 on a trade. Remember, I had a base SE....no sunroof, 16" wheels, no bose or power seat etc. The car needed maybe almost $1000 worth of work done maintenance wise, o2 sensor, new belts, new tires, maybe new rotors again! plus the front looked like a sandblaster was taken to it from all the chips. They have it advertised for 11.4k so they will make a bit off me for sure
But the price you pay for having the convience of someone taking it off your hands right away.
Sticker on the ZX3 was like 16.5 then throw in the 3K rebate plus the dealer discount(almost 2k) plus another $750 rebate Ford was offering for my being in the military and it added up to great deal. On top of that I qualifed for 3.69% financing to boot for 5 years.
Powertrain warranty on Fords is now 5/100k and for an additional 525.00 I got the Extra care plan which extends the bumper to bumper warranty for 3/36k to 5/100k
I put about 100 miles a day on my ride so the 525 seemed like a decent deal plus hey...it is an American car so better to have the extra coverage
Scheduled maintenance seems a bit spread out also. The Focus uses 5W-20 synthetic blend(Motorcraft I assume)and recommends changes every 5k. I noticed that the Motorcraft oil filter is much taller than the Fram one that fits the Focus....I assume the taller one is better?
And like I said before, no rattles (so far)
So I guess it came down to comfort, fun( this thing is a blast to drive, I'm not kidding ya), cost of ownership, and ya know something....it is a little bit fugly but I like it. I don't care for the Focus sedan but like the ZX3
Dany..the SVT is sweet but I'd be defeating the purpose of downsizing my costs for that car lol...almost 20K plus only 25 mpg on highway!
Hey Tim, no more chirping engine mounts lol
I knew I'd take a few shots for getting a Ford but hey...everyone has a right to their say...and by no means am I trying to compare my Focus to or put down Maximas at all. I just happened to get one that I wasn't very happy with thats all. I love tooling around in my folks 95 GXE
Hey I've already started modding...I plopped in a K&N air filter..heck even that was 15.00 cheaper than the Nissan K&N Filter

Best of luck... And guess what you are not stuck with that car for life.. So dont go crazy justifying yourself.
You have a new car..no rattle's,noise etc.
Just do all of us a favor and check-in with us next year and tell us how its going and maybe prove some of us wrong about a Ford.

So, yes, be anti Ford...but they can make stuff. What good is a Max if the body is rusting and all chipped to death?
