Some said it's almost like the suspension of SE models.

I find that very, very hard to believe. You can't drop the car 2" and have the ride quality be the same.

kinda rough on big bumps.... on small bumps, i can barely tell the difference... it could be tht i just got used to it.. but in any case, it doesn't negatively stand out in my mind... so it can't be too bad, eh?

Big bumps = harsh ride...
Small bumps or dips in the road = can't really tell...

Tein = best drop for the buck

and yes it does FEEL like the SE stock Suspension....not joking for real...
and on the highway, its beautiful...
i was taking a ramp on the highway right behind a 330i, and we were going about 65mph on the ramp, when it says 35mph, but I tailed him, and his car was weiving to the extreme side like he was having a hard time taking the turn that fast, and I was right behind him,,,,Planted to the Road... just what i wanted,....

There are just the regular spring teins, and then they also have coilver teins which is a 1 piece.

I installed a set of Teins and Tokico's in a 5th gen last weekend. You alsolutely MUST cut 2/3 of the bump stops off. If not, you will be riding on the bump stops which is why some of you guys have harsh rides.

The Tein/Tokico setup I installed totally impressed me as far as ride quality goes. Honestly, it almost felt as if nothng was changed. That was the best riding 2" dropped Maxima I've ever been in. The key is giving the suspsneion back it's much needed travel. If you don't cut 2/3 of the bump stops off with a 2" drop, your basically riding on rubber, not spring. The result is a harsh ride.

I'm looking into getting a set on Teins on a 4th gen soon. I already have a 4th gen thats willing to let me use his car for the test fit. Hopefully I'll get the same ride as I did on that 5th gen I did.

Hold the PHone.....

So, does this mean you no longer think the GR-2's are the SHIZNIT..???!!

You darn near had me sold on those --!?

Sounds like they are REALLY close to stock ride -- I want stiffer.
Did you get to hit any twisties in that thing??

I'm guessing either Tok or KYB's are equally similar, just a matter of preference -- you're just saying the TEINs are da BOMB, RIGHT??!

What did you use to Trim the Bumpstops? Sawzall? Dremmel? Hacksaw? Butter-Knife...? Can you trim them while they're still mounted on the car?? -- or is it better to remove and cut 'em on the bench?

Sorry to kill you again with the question...!

The Teins are great (on GR-2). Now I have the confidence in the handling that I was looking for when I bought the 2k3. The ride on the first week or so is rough but once the car settles everything is cool. The drop is awesome and cathces looks from other car owners. The funny thing now is that when I drive I am looking at the road a lot more than the person in front of me....pot holes! But the springs handle small bumps and dips well and any big pot hole or bump will be felt in any car. Overall I am satisfied.

I've had this other fear of Crushing my front lip on low curbs while parking after I lower my ride.

You had any troubles with this???

Teins

I got in on the Group Deal for the Teins. Should be getting them in a few days. I am just trying to decide whether to pair them up with the Tok's or GR-2's.

Funny you should say that. I really did not notice how low the car was until I went to the store and parked in a spot that has those concrete blocks used in parking lots. Now I don't park as close to the curb. And you will really notice how low it is when you try to change you oil.

i have toks, and they are great... but then again i have no basis for comparison... i've heard great things about both, and so either way is a safe bet..

Really? I heard it wasn't neccessary? I've got some Tein's and GR-2's on the way. Are the bump stops something that can be done after the install? Can they be replaced if I want to return it to stock?

To be honest, I know what the bump stops do but I'm not sure where they are located or what's involved in cutting them. Can you give me any advice to tell my installer?

Thanks

Yeah - but what kind of SHOCKS did he have??

I think too many people are attributing ride quality to the SPRINGS.

Although I KNOW springs contribute to the ride -- I'm of the opinion that it's the shocks/struts that ULTIMATELY determine how the car handles and behaves.

TEINS are "designed" to imitate the STOCK springs rates/ratios while giving a drop to the ride/body as it sits on the suspenders.

I'm not convinced (given the 269/201 lb. ratings) that these springs are going to make a HUGE difference in Ride quality or handling in comparison to the stock setup.

Anybody know the Eibach ratios???? I'll bet they're stiffer too -- but again - judge by your struts/shocks, not JUST the springs.

my 2 cents

Stressed~? Me??

Yeah -- I've been putting waaaaay too much time in on this one....and sucking entirely too much bandwith on the .org.

I wish the search f(x) was working, then i could leave people alone!

I've more or less made my decision -- the TEIN's are on the way since last week.
I'm just trying to decide on the shocks now - but likely will do the GR-2's.

Yeah - I'm **** retentive when it comes to this stuff, but only because I want to make THE right decision.
I'm an info *****....NEED THE I N F O -->>

There's ALOT of great info lately -- but everytime I get something good - someone else gives a 180 degree opposite!!?

Ok - Ok --- you're right....I'll shut-up now!

So, What kind of TIRES do you think I should I get???

I was thinking of going with the Bridgestone Potenza RE92's.

My Nissan dealer says he can give me a good deal @ $175 ea., they have a 50k mile tread warranty, and that they are as good in the dry as they are in the wet.

He tells me they are EVERY bit as good as the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S's, and are cheaper.

I'm SOLD!

I need to calm down on the whoop ***! I like the ride, its a little stiff but the look alone is amazing! People who didnt like the max love it now that its lowered! I think the car is fully settled, I put about 1000 miles on them so far..

It seems like everyone is talking about GR-2 and Tok Blues. I my self have Tein and GR-2's on. And before I had H&R with Tok Blues. IMO, I think GR-2 are better in the beginning of life on the struts. When I first put on the GR-2/Tein, I loved it, it felt like a BMW, but after the strut broke in. Started to get sloppy, I think my struts are blown already, cuz the ride got alot rough and bouncy compared to before.
Although it is still sloppy, compared to the Tok Blues with H&R, Tein/GR-2 are better.

My question is I saw in Stillen catalog and in Tirerack about KONI shocks. Many of my friends have KONI and it seems like they are way better, but more expensive than TOK or KYB. DOes anyone have KONI on the Max?????
After, hearing someone with KONI I would like to consider switching to KONI or get rid of my set-up and going for TEIN SS. coilover. I hear the ride is pretty good.
