----> Need Help Deciding Where I Should Put My Climate Control for System *PICS* --->

oK, i like how some 4th gens have the lcd screen up front like this--->

Now I'm going to try & do this by removing my stock radio & in that place putting a 7" screen....& where the climate control is I'm going to put my single-din aftermarket headunit....

Now I have to figure out where I'm going to place the climate control....in the glovebox? or in cupholder?

Here's a pic of climate control in cupholder--->

*sorry....i have no pic of how it looks like in glovebox so use your imagination*

Upgrade to a stock auto setup from a junk yard. Putting it anywhere else just seems tacky.

Huh? The auto climate control units and the manual ones are the same size. Also, the harnesses are completely different so swapping it out isn't a walk in the park.

How hard would it be to put it in the overhead console. If it is I am an idiot and you just got a free bump.

Glovebox. For me it the least used area. Besides the stock wiring might actually fit over there.

Put it in the arm rest. By the way, you stole my idea! I have been thinking about that setup for a while now, but do not have the funds. Good luck with it. Where did you get the pics of the 5th gen with the climate control in the arm rest?

its not that hard....just a lot of butt connectors =]

you wont have cupholders. Would you sacrifice that for a screen? I sure wouldnt.

hmm... I also think it would look great overhead (maybe replace the sunglass holder?) but not sure if all that wiring can be done there.

Second choice would be in the armrest.

Put it in the armrest. If you already thinking about putting in the cupholder it is not that much further to the armrest. You get to keep your cupholders too. I think it would be easier to make it look cleaner in the armrest.

Reaching over to the glovebox to adjust the temp would suck. I'd go with the cupholder idea or just leave the damn car alone.

thats my only pet peeve, reaching for the damn thing & its too far away....but I should do a test reach to actually analyze how far the reach is...

p.s. i guess it would be worth it...i like my stuff to look custom

Why don't u put it on top of the stearing column. Mabey people would think u had a turbo timer or something? Yea probably not (that was stupid) I would go with the cupholder, make sure its molded into it though. It's got to look clean. Good luck, we want pics when your done!

So were are you going to end up putting your climate control? I was going to put mine in the armrest but it wasn't working for me. I thought about the glovebox but I didn't want to have to reach all the way over so I put it in the cupholder. That's my max you saw on E-bay.

armset is too hard to wire?!

i wouldnt want to reach all the way over to the glove box to change the fan speed, or the temperature...especially if yours isnt auto climate. also , how can you change it while you are driving.

better off in the cup holder

i'm planning to put the kenwood 8" screen where the deck went and i'm moving the kenwood deck down where the ac once was. another way around that is to build up a centerconsole like the i30.. i'm building gauge clusters right now for the 5th gen. one prototype has been made already but it's not finalized yet, it'll house 3 gauges, and i can modify it to accomidate for the stock clock too. all this will be going on the market in late summer

i'd just get a flip out screen. pull out the stock stereo and there you go. plus you can leave your climate in place.

good luck with whatever your decision is.

that's generally the best way to go, IMO.. but relocating the ac unit gives it a more "cool" and "custom" look.
the dash isn't finished so i'm not taking pix of it.. hehehe

still deciding...nice max btw...i like the cupholder idea u did...did u have to snip all the wires from the back of control & extend it?

I apologize for both the poor photoshop skills (it is 4am here)
and for using pics (from Irvine78's page) w/o permission.

here is what i was talking about being high on the dash:

or almost parallel to the e-brake:

Brian

p.s. as many things do, it looked better in my imagination

I think this is going to be more difficult than you think. The problem I see is that the temp control actually is a wire that controls the position of an air duct somewhere. You will need to extend that perfectly to get the same control back. Electrical stuff I see no issue with, but that, that could take some time.

Is it possible to swap an automatic climate control for a manual just by swapping the wires from one harness to the other. I'm sure mit's more difficult than that. All you are doing is just using wires to extend the wires from the factory location?
