the ultimate nightmare, almost...

Well, let me start off by saying that I must be blessed somehow. That is the only way i can look at this situation, otherwise I would be flipping out now. About 4 mos. ago, i had a friend of mine install the Tein springs that i received at his shop. He had one of his low level techs install them for me for just the cost of buying him lunch. I have had varying opinions about this since it seems that he did not read the directions, first he didnt cut the bumpstops as recommened by Tein. Second and the most problematic as i found out yesterday night was that when he installed my springs he didnt move my brake line out of the way and didt secure it properly. It seems that during the last mos. , i have been driving around causing the brake line to rub and slowly wear a hole into it. Yesterday, i was running late due to some late appts and i was gong to miss an unimportant appt so i decided against going to the appt. The journey to the appt. would have directed me to a major highway that has many frequent sudden stops (Rt. 76 , for those from philly). Well my decision to forgo the appt may have saved my life and the life of someone else. I was proceding down some local phila streets close to my house, when in a routine attept to stop the vehicle i applie the brake only to discover that i had no pedal suddenly, i was only going about 25 miles per which is quite unusual for me since i love speeding around. Well, i was somehow able to pull the car to a stop by some quick thinking and manuevering on my part and pulled the emergency brake to stop the car. I exited the car to find a huge puddle of brake fluid under my car and my vehicle unable to be driven. I the had the car towed to Nissan , who then told me that the problem was caused by the brake line being broken by rubbing against the spring. This would not be covered under warranty and the part was not available until tuesday. Well this is going to cost me somewhere around $300 including bleeding the system. I cannot due anything about recouping the cost of the repair becaue the shop was a friends and the work was done without a recipt or any real payment. This could have turned out much worse but i was fortunate. My only advice to anyone, always check the work done on your vehicles and those who have installed any new springs, make sure that the brake lines are neatly tucked away from rubbing. I will be without my precious vehicle for a few days but i might have been without my life and may have caused untold damage to someone else. I am indeed fortunate.

if he's your friend, you should let him know that his tech is going to kill someone and will probably be sued into the ground when that happens :/

glad your still here to tell the story. i would w/o a doubt go and complain... friend or not. they could have killed you or someone else, and i would be rip-$****. at the least i would ask for the money to fix the problem. just what i think anyways. goodluck.
