Service Engine Light at 49,500 miles

Hi!

I am new to this... I just barely bought a 00 Maxima SE with 49,000 miles on it... When it turn 49,500 the Service Engine light came on. Is this just normal and take it in for normal service? Or is it just a coincidence?... Could there be something major wrong?... Thanks for any help you guys might have for me...

I doubt it is something major, take it somewhere and get the code pulled and then you have a good idea of what exactly is wrong.

Bring it to Autozone.. They'll use the odb-ii scanner and scan the codes and clear them for you for free

Bring it to a dealer but call around and get the best price. 9 out of 10 says you need a reflash. Is it code p0420? Good news it is likely not the cat. I just went through it. Tried autozone, even replaced an 02 sensor myslelf- at 120 miles it popped on again argggggggggggg! $70 later and a trip to the dealer and the light has stayed off...see they design it like this to get you into the dealer- Just be smart..find one you can trust...they reprogram the ECU it is called a flash. Should help with gas milage too...I went from 18 to 22!

its most likely the p0420 code. My dealer pulled the code and fixed it for free
