Transmission Cooolers

Hopefully, I haven't missed any recent threads on this subject. I'm getting ready to take a trip to VA. and am considering adding a tranny cooler. Any thoughts on the best type - manufacturer, thermostatically controlled, etc. Or even are they really needed on an 02.

Thanks,

Are you getting one for an automatic or manuel?

I should have my Stillen Oil cooler here shortly

if your car is stock....just get a basic tranny cooler, i.e. Hayden. or if you do a lot of stop and go traffic or you car is heavily modified, you can try B&M's cooler with fan. The fan is thermo controlled and it will be activated when your tranny fluid reaches 180f.

Get a B&M , the're internally theromstatcally controlled with calibrated orifices and don't overcool the fluid.

agreed....sometimes I felt the car shifts better when the ATF is around 150F. under 100F, cant really feel any vb shifting.

Unless you running a lot of boost then it'd wouldn't be worth the $ for a manual...

Even then... it's pretty thick stuff and it doesn't flow really well and there's not much pressure moving fluid around from what I've seen... You're better off runnign synthetic gear oil and maybe considering to cryo treat the components.

I dont think you can install a tranny cooler for manual tranny.

auto tranny fluid goes thru the radiator to get cooled, manual does not. since there are hoses coming out of auto, you can tap in another set of hose and route it to a tranny cooler. for manual, it does not have any hose coming out.

I dunno yet. I'll have to look at the kit when it comes in and take a look at it before I get it installed.

Have this one (B&M #264) too, took some trickery (and my wife's small hands) to help me get it installed, but I feel smarter about my car for having done the mod...
