JIC FLT-A2 Coilover ?

I'm considering purchasing the JIC FLT-A2 coilovers. How is the ride quality?

You see I travel approx 100 miles round trip for work per day therefore I don't want a real firm ride. I don't want to worry about every little bump or pothole. If I did go with them I would probably only lower them 1.5". Would this be a decent ride for these coilovers?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

It doesn't matter how high or low you have them. The good thing about the JIC's is the spring rate will stay the same no matter of the ride height. And it's 15 way adjustable so you can play with the ride you want. I love mines and definitely recommend you getting them...

PCGuRu2K, how is the ride with the JIC's? Is it really hard/firm. I'm worried it might be too firm for me. When you hit a bump, do you really feel it. I have Eibach/Toks now. How would you compare the ride as far as harshness? Thanks!

Mines are set at 8/9 right now. That's pretty stiff but not too stiff. When I go over bumps I feel them but they don't make my head hit the ceiling or anything like that.. If you set it to like 5/5 or so it'll be like a stock ride, if not better

Sounds great...I'm assuming the 8/9 and 5/5 are setting for the height adjustment? What does that translate into inches? Thanks for the replies.

That's the dampening setting. Front and rear are adjustable from 1-15. The height is adjustable by turning a ring on the strut assembly.

Oh! Sorry, didn't realize. I'm not real familiar with the JIC's. You've helped alot. Now I have to convince myself to spend the extra money because I just had the Eibach/Tok setup installed.

How is installation? Do they install without any problems or modifications?

It's 1 piece.. The install is very simple. Nothing to compress

Just remove the bolts off the strut mount, and mount these directly on your car.

I also have them on my car and the install is a breeze, the only special tool you will need is a torgue wrench and possible a universal joint. But too save you some hassle and make the job a lot easier i would take out the metal brackets that cover the strut mounts in the rear. You have to take out the seats and all kinda **** but it is well worth it. I installed mine this way the second time(after JIC replaced my rears because they were bad) and it made it alot easier, just a little more time.

As far as ride quality, I like the ride it isn't too stiff, but not soft at all. My dad drove my car for two days and said he like the way it rode, not too harsh. The only thing I don't like is that you have to know where every pothole on the road is, because if you hit one your teeth will grinch. I have memorized the roads around here and I just drive around them. I used to drive 120miles a day and I had no problem at all. Hope this helps, I will be glad to help you with any install questions.

IMO, why spend the $$$ for JICs? I mean, if you race on a road course, they are worth EVERY penny. But, for a Daily driver, i dont see the need to spend $1500 or more for them? there are many springs (TEINS rock) and good shocks to get for a lowered ride....

Again, nothing against anyone who owns the JICs..i wanted them, but i dont need them...

i totally agree with that.. imo, if you don't really race, maxspeeds are really worth looking into. they were designed to be used with your stock struts so you save extra money on struts and they are dirt cheap for what they are. if it weren't for the jic's i'de still be rolling on my maxspeeds.

the determining factor for me was the degree of adjustabilty. I love how i can adjust the height and tweak my dampening depending on how I will be driving. I agree, I have not yet fully used the capabilty of these things but I am happy with my purchase.

Thanks for all the replies and advice on this thread. I do appreciate it.

My only deciding factor at this point is the money. Unfortunately, I am the type of person that what's the best for my car and most of time that hurts my wallet.

By the way, I am new to the forum but I've been coming here for the last three months since I bought my Max. I really enjoy the car and its great to have a place like this forum to obtain a wealth of knowledge from all of you (experienced) Maxima enthusiasts.

Thanks again

I love mine. THey are definately very firm but the dampening is pretty good and as others have mentioned it has a lot of adjustability.

i have mine installed on my 2k2 gle. the ride is awesome. the turns are great too, just need to get better tires. i put my ride a little too harsh. i don't know how to adjust the dampening. i know there are 3 rings, but which one is which? my uncle did the installation for me, and i told him to do the harshest setting. and wow is that harsh. but getting off of highway exits are so fun. how do you know what setting you are at? are there numbers that tell you? cuz i didn't see any. im sorry, im a noob when it comes to suspension.

I don't know the exact number, but you will be rubbing tire before you bottom out the suspension. When I first put mine on, with the settings out of the box my back bumper was about 3 in from the ground.

They go VERY low. In fact I have them set to the highest setting and it's perfect. Around a 1.5 inch drop. You adjust the dampening with the little key at the bottom of the struts on the inverted ones and at the top on the regular ones.

Guru, what is your dampening set to? If you set it for a lower setting, does that mean not as firm/harsh a ride? I'm really trying to gauge the firmness because I don't want to have to grind my teeth every time I hit a bump.

If you don't want firmness, Do Not go with JIC, Trust me, JIC is definitely a track suspension, it was designed to be used on track. You can TRY to make it as comfortable as possible for the streets, but it ain't close to what you are thinking. I had the same thoughts as you before, and I have had 3 different brands of coil-over setup on my maxima. I can tell you that, the most comfortable coil-over setup are those with dual springs rates(H&R, KW, Apexi), which nobody makes them for maximas.

If you are looking for comfort, coil-overs aren't for you period.
