amp. question

I have the Diamond Audio HEX 600s and the M3 coaxial speakers for my car, and I was wondering what amp. should I use to make them sound the best, without coasting an arm and a leg? Please help!!!

i'm not familiar with your speakers but the best rule of thumb is get an amp whose continuous power(RMS) MATCHES THAT OF THE SPEAKERS YOU ARE PUSHING to avoid distortion.

i have the hex series components with m3 coaxials. i assume you're runnin the coaxials off the RAF on the hex components. you shouldn't need more than a 2 channel amp. the RAF speakers should push only about 25-30 watts. my suggestion, the Diamond Audio D5600.2 amp, which is my amp, is a good match. same company, so really the amp is made for these speakers. they're rated at 150x2, although recently the amp was given a review and it was underrated and really power over 220x2. pretty sick, but just goes to show you what these babies can handle. anyway. i have the D5 amp at half gain with the lowpass filter on at around 75-90hz. when i say this thing pumps, it is LOUD. clarity is perect, clear, clean, and the amp itself is beautiful. i wouldn't go anymore past this 150x2 cause although that's rms, it prolly peaks in the upper 200's. again, half gain or a little less and you should be fine. i would personally suggest opening up the xover and setting the tweeter down to -2db. i had it at zero and my ears were hurting cause the highs were just too strong. just a suggestion though.
also, don, since i assume you bought this in the group deal, has his set powering at 240x2, so if you're worried about blowing these, you have nothing to worry about, also don't think that 150x2 is under powering them because i already blew my tweeters (set the gain too high, but that's just me being stupid) so you'll be fine.

good luck.

p.s. the D5-600.2 costs in the $5-600 so if you're not ready to spend this money, i'd ignore this whole post...=)

Well I did decide to go with the D5 amp. So what do you have your doors lined with if anything. I want to hear music, not rattle.

Did you take you windows out of the track before you started to spray?

no but i did cover them up and most of the inner metal layer of the car covers the the window track so there really isn't much worry.

So you like the quality of the product you choose. Dose it make a huge difference?

yeah, they definitely killed some wind noise that seemed to overwhelm the car. other than that, it's better to be safe than sorry. you never know with these heavy duty systems, something is bound to start squeaking.

optima yellow top. i'd have to say over 90% of all systems are powered using optima's, with 100% using optima yellow tops. it's battery that runs at peak performance, from startup to shutdown and even while being dishcarged, will always perform at peak power. this is good for keeping a stable voltage. you dont' want fluxuation in your voltage. it affects the output power of your amps. amps power differently based on voltage. an amp can power 150x2@12.5 volts and at 14.4 volts power at 250x2.
it also comes with side AND top posts (must purchase side post terminals yourself) so it's easier to mess with. as you can see, i left my stock power harness intact and simply added my own seperate system wiring. the battery ranges in the $160-$200 with 175-180 being an average price. although i know an online place where at anytime, you can recieve it for $128 shipped. when he first sent it to me, it was cracked (UPS dropped it) and when i emailed him, no questions asked he sent me a new battery. that is quality customer service.
