HID High Beams

I am wondering if any 2k2 or 2k3 owners upgraded their 9005s to HID. I want to know how the beam pattern is and whether or not it has any issues with the projector housing for the high beams.

Re: HID High Beams

Why would you want to upgrade the high beams into HIDs? Do you drive with the high beams on all the time? If yes, then shame on you.

BTW, I just changed my high beam light bulbs to PIAA Xtreme White 9005. I'd say it's brighter than the stock ones.

If I had the 02 lights, then I would definately upgrade the fogs and highs to HID, it would be such a satisfying feeling to be on a back road, switch on the high's, and illuminate EVERYTHING. Definate smile on my face.

I would like to know too. However, since the fogs are on most of the time, wouldn't it make sense to HID them first? The high beams are nice, but I noticed that I never use them.

I'm sure someone makes 9005 HID conversion kits. However, I think it'd be better to have some yellow fog lights though as opposed to bright white / blue / purple if you actually use them for their intended purpose. Yellow won't reflect off the water droplets as much giving you greater visibility when it's foggy or raining. If you live somewhere that fog isnt an issue, then by all means.

I too have the PIAA Extreme white high beam bulbs. They seem much brighter than the OEM 9005s. They also don't look **** yellow when they are on.

I can vouch for that also. I have PIAA 9005 Xtreme White bulbs as my high-beams too. They are much better than the stock "Mcdonald french fry lights"
BTW,Why would you want to have HID's in your high-beams???

Yes, they do. www.hids4less.com carries them as well as a few other vendors.

I have kicked around the idea of putting the PIAAs in there but I am curious to see who's actually done this mod and how did they mount the ballast.

BTW, I have PIAA Crystal Ions in my fogs and like the contrast as one poster stated.

I have Raybrig's in my Hi's and fogs. I, at some point, want to get HIDs for my fogs. I also wanted to do the Hi's but the more I think about it the less it makes sence. 1st you don't use'em enough to justify the expense and 2nd the main things I use my Hi's for are flashing people to get out of my way or flashing people back when they flash me thinking I've got my Hi's on I've raised my HIDs a lil bit Anyway as we all know, all that flashing isn't good for HIDs.

When I'm on a dark road and use my Hi's the Raybrigs are so bright I can see over a mile, reflectons off windows hurt my own eyes. I almost feel sorry for people that flash their brights at me, almost...

I bought a set of PIAA Xtreme White 9005's. I test-fitted one bulb and compared it to the stock Sylvania bulb. When I looked at it from different angles, it was BARELY whiter. I think it was b/c of the HIDs next to the highbeams, but still... I also used it when driving, and still didn't notice much difference between the bulbs either. So I sold the bulbs...

A little off-topic, but the Crystal Ions look awesome in the fogs. You can see the nice contrast in my sig pic, and they work better than any whitish bulb will...

You'll also notice how the Superplasmas in the clearance light looks yellow next to the HID too...

I do not drive with them on all the time, but the problem is that I am in the Midwest and do quite a bit of highway driving (hence the reason my '02 has over 46,000 miles). The problem lies in the fact that these roads are dark as all get out and the stock bulbs are a joke in comparison to the HIDS.

But my impetus for asking this question is that I have been milling this idea around for a while. I thought about getting different bulbs but I see cars like certain Benzes, Beamers, and even the '04 Max with a bi-Xenon setup.

If anyone's got the high beams as HIDs, I want to know a few things before I decide to go and invest the $$ in this. Yes, it's a pricey proposition, but I would rather pay extra for a greater measure of safety than strictly looks.

BTW, I would not go past 5000K anyway.
