GAB Question

I know this is a stupid newbie question... but, is there a difference between the GAB and the OSCAI? If so, what are they? Thanx in advance for any assistance.

GAB is the "ghetto airbox mod" OSCAI is the "ooglie stock cold air intake"

GAB is when you take the filter holder off and basically cut the top off of it. I had this before i bought my frankencar. there is a noticable sound difference, now i dunno about any performance changes....who knows there may have been but i know it does sound pretty damn good, nowhere near as good as my frankencar tho . I can probably post some pics if you want...if you plan on doing this...let me know..

the OSCAI has quite a few variations....most of them consist of cutting the bottom out of the stock "ram air" scoop at the front of the car and running dryer vent or some other tubing toward the bottom of the car away from engine heat. Ive never had this...so i cant give you my opinions on it....

hope that helps!

I said the same **** at first, but when I saw Dave Hill (The guy who I guess came up with the GAB) run several passes at 102+ with just this mod and a cattman catback, well he proved me wrong to say the least.

it probably gives you a better top end....and you still get like the same low end that you loose with a Frankencar.

so i guess its better

in what year car?? a 3.0 or a 3.5?? i actually do wonder whether or not the GAB is better for the track...i ran stock with nothing but the GAB and K&N drop in and my trap speeds were higher with the GAB than with the Frankencar...of course the 2 days were like day and night...the GAB run was in perfect weather, middle of january, about 50 degrees outside...and the Frankencar run, well lets just say track conditions SUCKED, it was about 95 degrees outside in the hot summer sun....so needless to say no one was runngin good at all.

There is a how to somewhere i just cant remember where...

All you do is take the filter holder out and cut the top of it so it still holds the filter but also allows air to flow into the top of the box.

Another thing for the peeps checking this thread out...wonder what the outcome would be if someone stuck something like a Frankencar midpipe between the MAF and TB and kept the stock airbox with GAB?? Ya picture what im saying?? Get rid of the stock intake stuff and replace with a midpipe just like you would with a Frankencar...but keep the air box. Never know it might work pretty good...since it SEEMS the GAB gives better 1/4 times...it might be worth a shot...anyone care to experiment??

Anyway...back to the how to...i can post a pic of what the GAB looks like if you want. Its not a hard mod to do...let me know if you want pics....

here is a pic of the GAB...notice how the top of the airbox is simply cut off exposing the filter a little and allowing for a little more air to flow inside the box...

only problem there is that the car pictured is a 2k2 or 2k3...they only have 1 breather hose going into the stock "black box" a Frankencar midpipe or something with 3 places to plug the other vacuum lines would have to be used on his 2k1...not gettin smart or anything kuz u already know that...just saying to clarify it for 13th Star

I didnt mean it like that either....but yeah...the 2k2 and 2k3 only have one breather line going into the "black box" while the 2k and 2k1s have one breather and 2 vacuums (i think its one breather and 2 vacuums...anyway its 3 lines going into the "black box"). you can click my homepage link to the left and go to page 5 (i think) and see the Frankencar midpipe and how it has the 3 different places to put the breather and vacuum lines...
