Sunoco 94 in Jersey

Has anyone else noticed how good this gas is? My second trip to NJ confirmed it for me. My trip computer shows +2 mpg at the same 75mph cruise over anything else and the car just feels quicker when it's in the tank. I wish I could buy that stuff down here even if I have to pay the higher price.

Yeah, I have. I went to Jersey this weekend and I love that gas. Its still cheaper than 93 I use here in D.C. and it makes your car run beautifully. I also noticed the increased MPGs. I was at like 28 mpg on the trip back, I have never been that high before. Sunoco 94 octane rules!!!

The 94 may give you better gas mileage but 93 gives better performance.

You mean the 93 in New Jersey? I know the 93 in DC and Maryland seems to be no better than the 93 here in Charlotte.

I don't know..but I have trusted Exxon's 93 here in NJ...gives me great performance and decent gas mileage compared to texaco/amoco (24 highway and 21 local)

I use Sunoco 94 for trips from CT to NYC and gas mileage is definatly better and the runs somewhat smoother

I would have to agree with that.. I stopped using 94 because of that. For some reason my car would putter more with 94 vs 93. Rougher idle..etc.

Not sure if there's anything to explain. I don't know why.

Sunoco 93 produces better performance than Sunoco 94. Cheveron 93 is also awsome.

From previous threads - the lower the octane, the faster the gas burns. So lower octane actually gives you more performance; until our high-compression engines experience "knock", when the gas pre-ignites from heat and compression. That will damage the engine, so the knock sensor will retard the timing, and your performance will go to ****.

Maybe the Sunoco gas is more "pure" along with the higher octane? Less contaminants that don't burn?

The 93 could run better on the stock 14º settings for most people. But since I am running 17º of ignition timing perhaps my car can make better use of the 94. Ask Confused if he thinks my car was making good power the other day on that gas.

As a New Yorker there's only one thing to like about Jersey, their gas prices.

94 vs 93

I've also noticed that when I run 94 octane, when I start the Max I have to hold the key a little longer and it purrrrs a little louder. Seems to have a wee bit harder time starting up. Not something to worry about, but definitely something I don't like, but the MPGs are great. I sometimes have to fiil up twice a week on 93 in this city stop and go driving.

All you guys should come up to MA--all brands of 93 are awesome here. I've yet to fill up with 94 as most gas stations don't offer that octane, but if I ever see one, I'll give it a shot.

By the way, I use Hess 93 as that's the cheapest 93 in my area, and it doesn't seem to be any worse than the other 93s.
