Y-Pipe decision

I am still having a tough time deciding on wether to go with Warpspeed or Budget y-pipes. Is it true that Warpspeed can get afew more horses out of it. and I also heard that Warpspeed had O2 placement issues or something of the sort. What about budget. SO guys. I need ur help on deciding on which one to get. Basically is it worth the extra money to get a Warpspeed.

Fezzik - I'm glad you asked this. I was about to post the same question. I was looking at getting the Budget Y but then someone made the comment "You get what you pay for." I asked for an explanation on what specifically he meant by that but got no reply. I don't want to spend big $$ for a Stillen Y-Pipe, etc. if I can get the same performance from a Budget or Warpspeed. I also don't want to waste my money by buying a Budget Y then having all kinds of fitment issues, etc. Anyway, just wanted you to know you're not alone in this quest for information. I have never heard about getting extra HP from the Warpspeed, that is an interesting point. I've read that FHP gains for a 2K or 2K1 are somewhere between 10-15. Is this what you have heard?

The Warpspeed is roughly 300 dollars and the budget y-pipe is about half that around $150. Still trying to figure out if the 150 extra is worth it or not...

Where do you see budget for 150? I just checked their site and it said 250.

As I've said many times before, the budget pipe is all stainless, 2.5" OD, mandrel bent, has ZERO fitment issues and more importantly is CA$260 (US $ is based on exchange rate at time of order, so roughly $175- $180 US shipped). I really don't know what more can be said about the budget. As far as it producing less hp than the WS pipe I can't say anything definitive about it other than to say that I highly doubt it. People keep using the dyno sheet from WS's site but that dyno was for a VE ('93 I think) using budget's first version which was not mandrel bent.

All of these Y pipes give roughly (if not the same) hp so don't sweat that aspect. What you should be looking at is the price, fitment and quality of build (welds, material, etc.). All I can say is that the budget pipe gets an 'A' on all counts in my book.

Where did you come up w/$300 for a WarpSpeed? I got mine about a month ago for $215 shipped. Fit perfect, no problems, 8-12 HP gain most likely. Good luck.

The warpspeed SS version is $275. Works out to around $300 shipped.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like Budget is good bang for the buck.
8-12 HP is HP at the wheels not BHP, right?

Did you put this on yourself or does it make sense to let a shop do it?

Also, how noticeably different is it than the stock as far as appearance? I'm just curious if you take it to the dealer and they put the car on a lift, if it will be glaringly obvious that it is aftermarket. Thanks again.

If you have the stock Y-pipe on now I would suggest you take it to someone unless you have the right tools (jack stands, ratchet tools with long extensions and universal joints, etc.) because of how the rear stock pipe is bent which makes getting to 2 of the bolts on the rear manifold a b!tch. (If you have another aftermarket Y-pipe on it may be a little easier to get to the bolts. ) As far as appearance is concerned it would be clearly obvious that you've replaced the OEM pipe. See pics below

FYI...it comes painted black but it burns off within a day or two)

How loud is the Budget Y-Pipe (or F-Pipe as they call it on their website) with the stock muffler? Is it noticeably loud?

I still dont get why they(budget) paint the y-pipe black though when it's gonna burn off as soon as you use it? But it is stainless Steel right?

Not loud at all. In fact, if you are using the OEM 'B' and muffler you really can't tell the difference. Replacing the 'B' will yield a more throatier sound. Going all the way with a catback will be LOUD!!

Partner, you got me there on the black paint. One way to find out...give budget a call. The pipe is all stainless though.

Almost. By 'B' I mean 'B' pipe, the intermediate pipe with the resonator. The pipe is bolted to the cat on one end and the muffler on the other. Some people replace the OEM 'b' pipe with a more free flowing aftermarket 'b' pipe because of restrictions (2" diameter, crush bends) in the OEM one.

Hey 2K2DEMAX, I appreciate all the info. I think I will be moving forward with the Budget Y when I get the $$.

I took a look at Warpspeed's Website, and I think it's funny how they keep alluding that you should not buy inferior imported pipes. Wondering who they are talking about?
