2k-2k3 Windshield Issue/Info
As I have had numerous pitting and chips/cracks on my 2k3 Max SE with 7000 miles, I looked into this issue more. In doing a seach, I am not alone and the same 'cheap' windshield issues are being reported on G35 forums. I have had more pitting and/or chips in this one windshield than in all my previous cars combined over 20 years.
I looked over my '99 Max that I sold to a friend and it is PPG glass. This is USA sourced and one of the best windshield manufacturers. The 2k-2k3 Max, G35, etc use an Asian manufacturer that is clearly inferior. The OEM to replace is about $735 for the windshield. To replace it with a PPG aftermarket is about a $250 part. Go figure.
So, if you have to replace (vs repair with polymer injection) your windshield, I would suggest the less expensive PPG replacement. I wonder if Nissan went back to PPG for the '04 Max given that it is made in the USA. In any event, I am growing very weary of Nissan's continuing policy of using lowest bid part suppliers across their brand platform.

I drive on the freeway everday and I got chips all over the place not to mention a nice little ding one as well. Its as of it already needs replacing at 12000 miles. What a joke.

Check your insurance carrier to see if it is covered for replacement. Drving with all those chips is considered driving hazard for some of the larger carriers. The replacement might be covered. my .02

I got a chip from a tiny rock in the first 2 weeks I had my 2k3. Yesterday I was driving my beater car (93 MX-6) and got hit by a rock the size of a golf ball! It dented the hood and smacked the windshield. The windshield didn't have a scratch! I thought it would smash it for sure.
If that happened on my Max it would have probably ripped my hood off, shot through my windshield, then landed in my brain
