Carbon on the valves?

I've got a 2k2 auto SE with a little below 21k miles on it. I took it into the dealer for a few things and to try and get the hesitation TSB done. Well, for the hesitiation they told me my throttle body and valves had 'excessive carbon' on them and they needed to be cleaned. $220 to do it all.. i said NO F'in WAY. I know how to clean the TB and will do it this week but I'm not sure what or where to do the valve (stems?)? Or do I need to them at all?

Thanks

Find another dealer to go to. They are ripping you off.

21K miles, excessive carbon buildup on the valves The dirty throttle body at 21K is probably right on, but it's not whats causing your hesitation. You may have a bit better throttle response once you clean that up.

Excessive carbon build up on the valves, it's not even something that can be seen, thats a guess, and a very stupid one at that.
