VB upgrade

I'm crossing over from altimas.net to ask help with info on the valve body upgrade? I knew there was a link to a site that did this, but I just went down the entire list and didn't see it.
I'd like to know from people who have done this if it made the auto shift much quicker and firmer cause our autos upshift very slow at high RPM's (I have 02 alty SE). Is it worth the money? Also, one guy from altimas.net told me that the shift was almost too harsh for everyday driving. Last of all, can they adjust the shift to how you want it or does it have to be extremely harsh when upshifting? Appreciate any info guys

welcome to maxima.org

mobiltek.net and maximuntuning (I dont have the link for the second one)

the first site offers one type of vb....it makes a firm shift and you can feel a little kick between shift at low rpm. not too harsh to drive. the site owner's name Don.

the second one offers two types of vb, street and racing, IIRC. racing vb shifts much harder and strong. I think the owner/mechanic's name is Jeff.

There's a guy in Texas and a guy in NY that do it, those are the 2 that I know of. I did some searches a few weeks back and found alot of info on it. Try searching for "valve body mod". (since the search here won't allow "vb" )

^^Thanks a lot. Just to let you know I tried a search with valve body, upgrade, and transmission separate and together and came up with nothing. I'll check out these two sites.

Just checked out the search with valve body mod and the web sites. This is what I've been looking for. Appreciate the info guys, and I think I'll call Jeff to find out as much as possible before doing this. Even so, it sounds like it can take a few tenths time off a 1/4 mile!

as far as installing the new valve body, is it hard? my buddy here at work says it isnt too hard, mainly just pull off a couple bolts and the old valve body slides out, then the new one goes in... a few more details, but thats the basic jist of it. anyone done it themselves? i've been considering this mod for a while...

I have JEFFS VB mod and tranny cooler and I couldnt be more happy!!!!
I dont know how I drove it W/O the VB mod and cooler. Yes the 1/2 upshift is harsh,But thats ur main accelerating gears, the rest r smooth. The 1/4 times have deff. dropped. I suggest u go full race stage 3 if ur gonna do it. Its not much of a diff. It extends tranny life, and greatly improves perf. I shift at 6200 RPM in first and pull redline in the rest. For the money it is definately worth the investment. If/When u call Jeff @ 516-675-8470 Tell Him JUSTIN with the Black 2000 Maxima from the BRONX refered you,...He'll take good care of you

nice!!!! im all for stage 3, have u really done a before an after with the 1/4??iv been wanting this mod forever but no one seems to have it done, when u say u shift at "6200rpm" do u mean u throw it from d1 to d2 or automaticaly it does this from d??ok put it this way, is this a mod where we can feel a b4 and after difference?

1)When I say I shift @ 6200RPM thats in Drive WITH & W/O O/D on. Either way Its a 6200 shift.

2)YES there is a Diff in 1/4 times, I know its not the most technical approach but I borrowed a friends G-tech and there was a nice drop in my 1/4 times. It succesfully knocked a few tenths off,And every tenth is a car length when Drag racing .

3)And Finally YES this is DEFINATELY one of the few really good and worth the money mods. If u have cheap tires be prepared to chirp or even break loose into second.
Another thing,...If u dont have a FSTB GET ONE. When ur tranny shifts now its gonna give a lot of torque steer cuz of the faster shifts. The FSTB will calm this down. Another thing u should also know is U HAFTA GET A TRANNY FLUID COOLER!! Its a must, the faster shift = more heat. The cooler is a must. As far as price My whole set up was $488-Stage3,cooler,fluid change, and labor. If ur close to 80K on the miles I suggest u speak to DAVEB and get new solenoids also,....Better to do it all at once then hafta pay to crack open ur tranny again Later and drop the VB again.

Hope this info helps,
Justin

Just thought of another question--How much trouble is it to hook up the tranny cooler and does anything have to be modified to install it?

hmmm, I never know that FSTB will hold down torque steer. torque steer is caused by unequal lenght of the axle on an FWD. I know some of the SC peeps use smaller and ligher wheels for the front to reduce torque steering. I didnt feel any differences after I took off the FSTB.

I definately noticed less t/steer after my FSTB was installed. But then again I also had my whole suspension done at once.
