Rear brake light problem

I've got a 2003 Maxima GXE. Bought the spoiler as an add-on at the dealership. Got home and noticed that they left the rear window brake light installed. Since this isn't needed with the spoiler having the brake light in it, I removed the bulb in the light mounted in the rear window because it looked kind of stupid with the spoiler already having the brake light mounted in it (the rear window brake light was shining through the spoiler). After removing the bulb in the rear window brake light, a red error light with a headlight symbol comes on in the dash whenever I brake (I'm assuming it's trying to tell me that a bulb is burned out). Called the dealer, mechanic told me to put the bulb back in, use it for a few minutes, then remove the rear brake light wire harness that the bulb plugs into. Did that but error light still comes on in dash. Called the dealer back and they said "hmmmmmm, never heard of that happening before" and basically left me out to dry. Anyone know how to overcome this problem? Also, is the dealer off the hook since I tried to fix this myself (in other words, not covered under warranty anymore)?

P.S. (I bought the filler plate that goes in the void left by the rear window brake light assembly....it looks ok).

I put on an aftermarket spoiler on my 2K GLE and connected the spoiler brake light to the existing prewired assembly in the trunk lid for the spoiler then disabled the rear deck brake light by pulling the bulb. I do not get an error light in the dash. Your rig is still under warranty for this item. They installed the spoiler and it should work. Take it back to them and don't except anything but 100% satisfaction.

Is it possible that they don't have the spoiler's tail light harness hooked up correctly?

"BTW where did you get the cover plate?"

I got it at the dealership. I think it was $30. It's just a piece of flat plastic that covers the hole area. It's the same shape as the brake light housing and the same color as the carpet. I guess it's back to the dealer for me on the brake light problem.
