I am interested in getting some exhaust tips put on my stock 01 SE muffler. Will 2 Magnaflow Tips fit the muffler and where to buy Magnaflow 3" Tips?

I just got these tip and was going to have them installed, but couldn't find the shop and 5 o'clock was coming so I'll just wait for the morning and I"ll post pics tomorrow.

i just bought and had the MagnaFlow #35131 3" tips put on...after seeing ASU174s pics of his ride.

i got them from A1's website per his recommendation.

they look sweet and were pretty cheap to buy and install! enjoy!

 

How do they install? Do you have to weld them or do they come with a set screw or clamp?

you can get some name-brand "bolt on" style tips that look about the same from the rear angle (and for about the same cost)...but they are kind of lame!

if you are going to spend the money...at least get a tip that is permanately attached (and yes...welded)!

most of the time you can easily spot a bolt-on by the way it looks on the inside end...where the bolt that attaches it is...it just looks cheaper if that part is ever seen by anyone.

i had my MagnaFlows put on yesterday. $20 to install plus the $40 they cost (for the pair). well worth the $60! beats getting a whole new exhuaust or muffler any day!

 

Just wondering how you get a 2 1/4 tip to fit on a 2 inch tail pipe.

 

Cut the stock pipe off completely. Weld on 2" of 2 1/4" pipe.

 

I wish I was more trusting of local muffler shops.

 

ASU174 is right on!

or actually, the shop that did mine yesterday just cut off all except for about 2" of the stock 2" pipes, then mounted another 2" long pipe that had an inlet of 2" and an oulet of 2 1/4" (an adapter of sorts). then, they mounted the new 2 1/4" inlet of the tips.

no...don't sweet it. any major muffler shop has likely done something like this many times before. exhaust tips are a dime a dozen. it's common sense to those guys. i had mine done a my local Menikee muffler shop. it took only about 15 minutes to install.

 

these look damn nice!!! i definitly have to do this to my 2k, get rid of that damn housing that goes around the stock exhaust and have these nice 2 tips!

 

Asu, are the tips you have on yout car angled, or is the so slight that you can't really tell? just wondering because it doesn't look like they are.

 

Yes, they are slightly angled.

oh, and one more thing!

after ASU174 had his pipes installed he had his entire muffler lifted an inch or so.

i'm not sure exactly how the 2k1 and ups models are, but on my 2000 GXE, the muffler (and tips) sit really low and there was a several inch high gap between the exhaust tips and the bottom of the bumper (looking at the car from the rear).

i did not have my muffler lifted like ASU174 did, but instead i just had the guy mount the new tips at a slight upward angle. that used up all that gap and tucked the tips nicely right under the bottom of the bumper.

otherwise, i would of had a gap of about 2 or 3 inches between bumper and those big dual exhaust tips...it would of looked kind of lame!

just thought i'd give you a heads up! good luck.

 

My guy just bent the brackets a bit. Otherwise it would look like hell hanging down two inches.

i just bought them, waiting for them to come now..the guy said they were 7" tips though, 3" in diameter..i was liek uhhh..i wasnt sure but i was like as long as there #35131 those are the ones.

nice dude, i have a 2k3 max SE, will i have to cut off my stock tips and weld on the magnaflow tips?? And whats a good place to get the tips. I really like them over my ghetto tips, Nice tips Jessa, I have a sheer silver on with the blue W2s, i just need the tips... what year is your car? 2002? my 2k3 muffler tips arent like that..... oh well....gonna cut them off anyways

did u cut the stock piping off? does it make any noise now...

if u want your tips to stand out a bit more... spray paint your muffler with blak paint so it wont show... it looks nice

 

thanks for the comments guys. as for cutting the pipe, I told the guy to do exactly what asu did, and i brought pics of his car down to show him too he cut off most of the stock tips, then welded on about 2 inches or so of 2 1/4, then welded these tips on there.

The tips are Magnaflow 3". And I bought them from http://www.a-1performance.com/ there ordering seems to screwed up on the site, or maybe its just me, you can just call. There part #35131. there only 40 bucks

and there is no noise at all. Best thing about tips, looks of exhaust, with stock sound

 

these tips are stainless steel?

 

i got the same tips recently, from the same A-1 Performance place (online ordering worked fine for me), same install setup (cut off nearly all of the stock tips, weld on a "adapter", so to speak, then weld the tips on to that).

just make sure you first take into consideration a few other things, like how far out you want the tips to stick out. that is up to you, of course. you can have them placed flush with the bumper (looking down at the car), they can stick out a bit, or be up inside/under the bumper some...all up to you. also, ASU174 and i had ours angled up a bit to fill the gap between the top of the tips and the bottom of the bumper.

yes, the tips are stainless steel. full specs: stainless steel, rolled edge, single walled, round, angle cut, total length 7", outlet diameter 3", inlet diameter 2.25", priced around $20 each, and should cost about the same for installation.

 

Jessa, did you change reverse bulb/lense, or does it just look like that from the pic?

Magnaflow Tips

 

Couple questions about the tips...1. they odn't change the exhaust tone do they (don't want any ricer-sounding exhaust) and
2. How about the 3 1/2 inch tips...will they fit too or are they too wide.?

 

1) they dont make any ricy noises at all. this is a cosmetic mod, nothing to it.

2) stick with 3, a lot of people get 2.5, but now we have three... but i wonder wut the 3.5 would look like.....

 

I have seen some Maxes with 3.5in tips. If you notice the 3in tips, when they are installed properly and the muffler is raised a little, fit perfectly in the bumper cutout and leave very little space between the two pipes. The 3.5in tips will be too wide so they will not tuck up into the bumper cutout. They will have to hang down lower. The 3in tips fit perfecly and give a very clean but aggressive look.

I think I'm gonna do that, it solves the problem of keeping the quiet stock muffler, yet having an aggressive look, you guys rock!

Anyhow, I check the A-! website and notice the dynomax cat.converter.
I'm dumb and didn't know it's existence till now, and I assume there's alot of other Cat.Converters in the market.
I just wanted to ask if the dynomax is the same, better, or worst that RT ones (which is rather expensive..)? I don't want straight racing pipe, (it's kind of a moral thing..) and I don't really want to deal with warpspeed...
So any other recommendations??
Also, if I just get a universal one, what size, diameters etc. should I look for??
It's a 2k2 btw, if it makes any difference.
