Killed IS300 with my auto 2k2 ( funny but long)
I was driving down 83N in Chicago area when this younger kid with his girlfriend pulls up next to me and is giving me the stuck up look. Then out of nowhere he decides to step on it. I did the same but by the time I stepped on my max he was already 2 cars ahead of me. At around 70 I started to catch up to him, but at about 80 he turns on his hazard lights to let me know he won. I look at my buddy sitting in the passanger sit of my car and just laughed. I pull up to the red light roll down my window and with a smile on my face told him that I will my max will rip him a new one. He looks at me and laughs and says "u dont even stand a chance" thinking that his IS300 with an exhaust will beat my max.
Make the long story short: Light turns green, I step on it, manually shifting had over 4 cars on him at about 90 and still pulling. He pulls up next to me again ans says "do you wanna race my buddy's turbo IS300" I started laughing and told him that his car is slow and my max is bone stock.
He must have felt so stupid aspecially driving with his girl.

I went to test drive one of them to see what I thought, I am getting tired of the 2k2 6sp and was looking for something a little different and boy was I suprised. I drove the auto and man was that thing a slug. Needs more engine. Looks like I need to drive the G35
You go over to their site IS300.net and they think its the quickest car man has made,NOT! They dont even sound realistic alot of their encounters that is and get very defensive quick!BTW you dont even hav eto manual shift to beat one in an 02 they are more of a match for 95-01's stock.

I pulled big time from 60-75 maybe 80, but from then on it held pretty good. I was still pulling slightly though.

Still 2K2+ shouldn't waste their gas!

You're right about that but only from a standstill, once we're on the roll though it's lights out for the IS300, I think our Tq curve is better somehow and we run stronger from 60-120.
I killed an IS3 from a roll at 60-110 rollin down 70 East NC.

Yeah, but it will cost the same, if not more, then a M3. I'd take a M3 anyday ESPECIALLY for ergonomics.

I really want an M3. They aren't changing the body design until '05 on them, correct? Maybe I'll get that next year as my new "play toy".

I haven't seen anything about changing the body design on the M3, but I don't keep up-to-date since I can't handle the pain of not having one anytime soon.
SMG or manual?
I'm going to get the manual. I'm not sure I could ever really trust that SMG system, regardless of how good it is supposed to be. The M3 is a driver's car, and I want to "feel" the car. Getting a true manual is the only way to acheive that "feel", IMHO...

I just mentioned the IS430 because it was a IS300 vs Maxima discussion. Otherwise I agree with your above statement.
The IS430 is NOT going into production, as far as I know. I believe that was more of a test car for Toyota, not unlike the Honda AC-R (6G Honda Accord Coupe V6 w/300hp) Anyway, I think the current IS is due for restyling soon.
What Toyota should have done was import the Altezza with its 4 cylinder Turbo; that'll run circles around the IS and give our Max a run for it.

Once the price comes down in the USED market, I'd really like to make one a project car.
...Not a bad plan. Recently I have seen a couple of project IS300 cars in tuner mags and I will admit... They clean up nice. Which is about the nicest thing I can say for them... For example, a cavalier has to be really dressed up to even look sporty, usually looks like crap. But an IS300 in the right hands can look really suave, and still be a beast with the right turbo/brakes/supension setup...

All I see in mags are IS3's, RSX-S's, and WRX's nowadays. The IS3 has SOOOooo much potential and even with serious N20 or FI, it can run stock internals.
