"Chech Engine Soon" Light is on??

My Check Engine Soon light came on today. I only have 46,000 on the car and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong when I am driving.

Does anyone know if it appears to tell you to service it for reg. maintenance?

Someone help me PLEASE..

O2 sensor? Take a drive to your local Autozone and ask them to pull your codes. It's free.

First, check the fuel filler cap. Make sure that it is on tight. Sounds silly, but this is legit.

If the light does no go off in the next 50 miles or so, take it in to check the codes. You can do this yourself if you want to, my son does it on his gen 4, there are web sites with the codes and what they mean.

If it is an oxygen sensor, that should be covered under the emissions warranty.

Could also be dirt in the system, 2 tanks of premium fuel with injector cleaner can also work.

Thanks C430, I am at work now but i will try that gas and injector cleaner tonight. I have to bring it in to nissan monday anyway for a TSB.

I was just worried it might get bad.

This is about the mileage where many have this same problem. Mine was related to the O2 sensor but it was the computer that needed reprogramming. They covered it under the emission warranty. If the engine is still running smoothly then its probably not a coil or MAF. Hopefully it won't cost you anything to fix. If they run a test and say it is the coil then replace it yourself - they rip you off on this replacement.

It's either a o2 sensor or the p0420 code which is emissions....there is a TSB for it...but you won't know about it unless you get the code...and you need a ODB 2 reader to do this...you can't read it from blinking lights like the 4th gens...take it to the autozone or whatever and just get the code for it. Its free if i'm not mistaken to get them read there.
