Stupid drivers!! (kinda long)

I have a complaint that I'm sure alot of us have and it's about people whom I consider to be stupid drivers. These are people who own cars like Civics, Saturns, Sentra's, and so on. Basically I'm talking about people who drive these weak **** 4 bangers.

Why when your on the highway do they feel compelled to beat you? Here's an example, today I'm leaving from work and I'm going on this road called Veterans Parkway which is basically about a 5 or 6 mile mini highway. Anyway as I'm approching the entrance I can see this mid 90's model Altima up ahead. As I get closer to it I can see the driver is quite ****ed that I'm passing him. So when I start to get on the Parkway he starts to tailgate me. Being that I've just done suspension mods to my car I commense to whooping his butt in the corner. Also as usaual as I come out of the corner I can accelarate harder than he can. So I get to my usual speed of 80mph on this road. Now at this time he's at least 15 car lengths or more behind me, so I figure he's done. Which is good because I'm not try to race hime in the first place. All of a sudden I look in my mirror and I notice that he's moving up on me very quick like. I move over to the next lane to let him pass and he does, but then he proceed's to match my speed of 80mph. Now maybe I'm crazy, but this just ****ed me off, because to me if your going to pass someone, pass them and keep going don't just pass them and then start to slow down back to their speed. It's like the only thing he wanted to do was just pass me because he couldn't take the fact that his car was no where in my league, so his only solution was to do a racer fly by. Anyway to me people like him are dumbasses who need to get a life. It just seems that everybody today is in a race. Also it seems to me that alot of these people like him have no concept of what there car can and cannot contend with. I don't know how many times I've seen people in these 4 bangers just trying to tear the road up, swerving in and out of cars and sqealling tires as they take off from a light. Come on people your cars suck there not fast by any means of the word and another thing because you put an intake and exhaust on does not mean that now all of a sudden your car can beat mine. Just because I put the stuff I've put on my car doesn't mean that now I can compete against Vipers and C5 Vette's. What idiots. Well thanks for letting me vent and please if you think I'm wrong tell me.

Not wrong, but I wouldn't overgeneralize types of cars and actions if I were you. Take a look around here and you will see enough stupid kill stories that would make you equally sick.

Oh I feel you, in fact I've been an idiot too in racing people for no reason. I mean I remember a time when I owned a Honda Civic Si and I liked to speed all the time, but when someobody in a Maxima or Mustang, whatever beat me and I knew they were faster than me I surely didn't go after them and do a racer fly by.

my lesson in racing...
with my old mustang I beat a viper on my way down to the tracks
he was racing me but missed a gear
got down to the tracks where on my 4th run I got beat by a VW bud that ran a high 9's

I've learned that with all the variables out there from nice cars to people who can and cant handle them, or lack the experience. You never really know If you will ever win ....
I admit that when I was 17-18 I used to race anything; porsche, ferrari
vipers etc ... I used to do it whenever I could
But there are lots of those cars and lots of open roads here in North Scottsdale to do it. Just dont go over 80 when you hit the intersection of Pima and Happy Valley.

I wont race anyone now. win or lose. I have not even been to the track in like 4+ years. Not worth it to me. I enjoy fast cars but I have to need to prove anything to the anyone ... especially these people driving around me that I have no idea who thay are anyways

I agree with the point that it is not particular to certain cars. The thing you have to be careful with is taking the bait and trying to "put them in their place". More likely they will end up in some kind of accident and you will have to live with that on your conscience.

agree... You never know if the person driving has the
skills neccesary. Is awake enough. Is not drunk or high or worse
Is not a complete luatic that would shoot you if you won.

Nor do you know the condition of the vehicle they are driving or wether there are nails bolts etc on the road... huge problem where I live as there is huge amounts of contsruction.

Yeah, I wouldn't generalize here...

I thought my 1985 Z28 was fast for the time, until some dude in a sleeper '72 pinto with a small block V8 roasted my butt.

after going to the track for the first time last week it makes me want to go there every so often just to go fast and have some fun driving quick. on the roads is definatly not the place to do so.

yesterday for example i was pulling out of my local video store, goin home to watch Sum of All Fears. so i back out at the same time as 2 kids in a POS convertable car (dont even know what kind... the slow kind) and i start to drive off (still in the parking lot) and this kid just HAD to floor his car to get around me, who was driving in a normal manner. so we both pull out onto the road, and i give it some gas and scoot around him, no problem. he tried to race me of course, but i was just getting up to the 45 mph limit since i was pullnig into Walmart like 500 feet later. so now that i'm ahead of the hot-heads, they do the ricer fly-by and proceed to flick me off. now what was the use of that? my car got going a normal speed, and i turned into walmart shortly after, but since he couldn't keep up with me, might as well flick me off! morons

I don't know about you guys, but the problem I have is slow azz drivers mostly. It's people in the morning who are driving UNDER the speed limit while I'm trying to get to work. Now, I don't speed recklessly when I am driving, but I pick and choose my spots so that I can exceed the speed limit safely so.

However, there are always these morons who don't understand the concept of "keep right unless to pass". They just drive in whichever lane they choose and have no consideration for other drivers on the road.

The other thing that ****es me off is soccer moms in their SUVs changing lanes w/out checking mirrors/blind spots. You don't know how many times I've seen them create accidents, or near accidents. Nowadays if I'm passing an SUV, I try to shoot past it as fast as possible so that I don't get stuck in its blind spots.

I've learned to become a very defensive driver over the years, but I still enjoy stomping the gas once in a while (not to race anyone, but to throw myself into the seat on an empty road with good visiblity).

i forgot to mention the blinker thing in my other post - and how about people who accidentally drift into 2 lanes at the same time? I always keep my eyes on the road, its hard to miss We've all done some of these stupid things before too, but at least we learned from our mistakes though. it amazes me how many bad drivers are out there... and while i encounter a lot of morons speeding, I also see more than enough slow "Sunday drivers" cruising in the passing land for endless miles.
What I've learned from these people:
- Don't be in a rush - all the old people from florida will find a way to be in front of your car
- Don't buy into other people's ideocity... just keep a close eye on them
- A large SUV probably has a driver (soccer mom) on a cell phone, eating lunch, yelling at kids, driving with knees: Beware
- New Benz's, BMW's and Lexi want to go fast and have drivers on cell phones because "They're better than us - they have a Bimmer (or whatever)"
- Mack Trucks should be referred to as BST's (Big Scary Trucks) you all know the many reasons!

Just a short summary of things i've learned from driving. anyone want to add some more??

I can say a few things here...

first, most of the time people who are drifting lanes are either (1) old farts, (2) drunk, or (3) not paying attention primarily because of a cell phone (oh how I detest cell phones and driving!).

second, driving under the speed limit isn't always that bad... it just always seems to be the person in front of you when YOU are in a hurry (and, really, is it THAT much of an emergency?)

third, I agree with the whole Benz/Bimmer thing... who knows why

but with the scary trunk thing... I can say this... I was driving a 5-ton trunk with a 1-ton trailer behind it in a military traffic and moving through the Chicago area... drivers cut the convoy off all the time, they don't move to let you in, etc... so you know what? I did what any other "BST" driver does... mine is bigger than yours, so I just put the signal on and drifted over... and laughed at how quickly the person who wouldn't let me in now had to brake to get out of the way.

A LOT of drivers don't allow trucks their space... nor do they yield for them... and the same goes with motorcycles... a lot of drivers don't watch or yield for motorcycles...

just my .02

Driving UNDER the speed limit is pointless unless the weather warrants so. The limits are set pretty low most of the time anyways, so driving UNDER is unnecessary. If a driver feels that they're not competent enough to drive at the speed limit and feel "safer" at an even lower speed, well, then they probably shouldn't be on the road at all.

Again... you miss the point. Too many speed demons out there who aren't happy until they are maxxed out going 5, 10, or 15mph over the posted speed limit.

I'd like to see you driving the speed limit when it's snowing out, or in heavy traffic...

I think you're the one missing the point. Look at my previous post where I said that one can drive at least the speed limit unless the weather warrants so.

Why are you talking about traffic? Of course you can't go the speed limit if you're in bumper to bumper? What was your point here?

I'm saying that everyone on the road should be able to at least keep the speed limit, or at the very least, yield (if multiple lanes) to a faster driver instead of hogging a lane.

Again, if a senior citizen finds it necessary to drive significantly below the speed limit to feel "safe", they should not be on the road. Driving requires quick decision making and keen awareness, and if those things are absent, you're a time bomb waiting to blow.

vito, I couldn't agree with you any more wholeheartedly.

After driving on the autobahn for 8 months, I didn't want to come back tot he United States, knowing how much of a 'back roads' driving society we really are... but unfortunately, until the US passes laws that make our highways like the autobahn (always keep the left lane free for passing, drive a common speed, allow traffic to pass, allow traffic to merge, etc)... we have to deal with what's out there and not let it get our blood pressures up.

We can vent like this in the forum, but it doesn't change the habits of the old timer who believes that you shouldn't be going faster than what he thinks (I thought this was a free country!), or the person who doesn't want you to pass them, or the mindless idiot who drives with their high beams on (especially when it is because they are too cheap to replace their headlights and the high beams are the only lights that work!)...

sigh.

Cool!

From your previous post, I thought we were on different pages. I think venting helps since that's pretty much all that we can do. Sometimes *****ing about it let's us cool down and share some laughs/stories about these things. It's part of being a member of a common-interest forum.

Take it easy man

Exactly.. dont overgeneralize...... ive been in situations where another maxima owner was being like that..... reving his engine at a stop light..... So its not just the civic.... or sentras... its just plain old dum-bass drivers on the road..

Tru! I've had a lot of dudes in 2K/2k1's tryin to race me(like they could beat me or something)- All these factors we speak of are all uncontrollable- All I have to do is drive around in my clean ***
car with my beats bumpin lookin' and I look back and somefockinbody is cuttin' through lanes in a dangerous fashion just to pull their car ahead of mine(even if their car is a POS)

Unfortunatly we are a nation of arrogant speedfreak drivers-
can u believe a guy yesterday was trying to race me in his S8-
WTF !! That car was sweet! on top of that he couldnt gain on me-which I bet ****ed him off even more- but am i supposed to (in traffic) let him cut in front(or squeeze in full speed)
just to slam his brakes and cause me to my Reeses peanut butter puffs! FOCK HIM! And his Momma!

Wow! I feel better now-

A bike would be the death of me.
I hardly ever race people, for the most part I drive like an old lady...slow or just barely above the speed limit.
True!
True!
I don't have endless amounts of money to throw into my car do you?Plus I'm not trying to become the worlds fastest Maxima or the best handling. I just mod my car for personal enjoyment, which no doubt you do the same, but I just don't have the money to pay for any damages done to my car because I'm out there at the local track and I throw a rod, blow a piston, whatever. But your point is well taken.

Yea, like some Maxima owners never feel superior to Civics, Corollas, Camrys, Accords, etc.

The same thing happends to me all the time. My car isn't the fastest thing around, i know. But when stock saturns with blue flames matches my speed and gives that look. I just laugh. It happend to me the other week on the way to dallas. And Yesterday a middle age woman in a 03 525i raced me on the highway to 120ish. I usually don't race, or condone it, but i felt it was a fare race. 189 hp vs 222 hp, mine being an auto though. But as far as these civics and saturns (or worse a riced out chevy cav.) You must learn to ignore them, or just laugh and pour a bag of rice on their hood.

if you must know the race with the bmw was pretty close since i backed of around 120. I love to go fast, but i don't like jail.

i did get beat by a 93 civic once. i later asked what hes done to it. "GSR motor". Yah, the race was close, but he had my number. So be carful.

Going to the local track is a better idea. Then everyone gets to see you beat them.
