Manual LSD Conversion Almost Done…Please HELP
Manual LSD Conversion Almost Done…Please HELP
I just replaced my broken auto transmission with an AE vlsd 5-speed. Everything works except for some reason I didn’t get a manual speed sensor with the AE tranny, so I wont have a speedometer or ABS until I get that part. On my old auto there was a pulse type speed sensor, but there is no place to put it on the manual tranny, and on the manual tranny there is a plug with a bolt where the pinion type speed sensor should be. What’s up with that? Shouldn’t there be a speed sensor with a wire on the manual tranny? Could someone explain this to me and possibly link me to any threads, pics, or wiring diagrams that might help?
Thanks in advance.

2k2whitemaxi,
You could do it on a 02/03 i would think, but im not sure if anyone has done it yet. I just got a everything (almost anyway) from one wrecked 2k1 ae maxima and had it put in my 2k gle.
The reason the Manual tranny has a manual speedo cable and the auto has an electric one is that the auto has a TCM and the manual does not. There arent electrical compnents to the manual as with the auto, so an electric speedo cable wouldnt work. Best bet is to find one at a junk yard.

I have another printout that shows the speedo pinion, and it shows that the tranny can have a "plug type" or "pinion type." The pinion type looks like a normal speed sensor with a little gear on it, and the plug type is just a plug to cover the hole. The plug is tear shaped and has three little bumps on it and one bolt. What I dont understand is if you have a plug type, where is the speed sensor and how do you wire it?
I hope this makes ok sense.

Kevin would know ALL these questions.
He did the same thing. So apparently you got the different axles, right?

I got the tranny and axles, and almost everything else on the hlh0501.com parts list out of a freshly wrecked AE. It was pretty lucky finding most of what i needed in one place.

Sweet...sounds like a good find.
I would have scalped all the AE specific parts possible.
The M/T 5the gens all have the same "pinion" or vehicle speed sensor- When I sold the new VSLD trans to Kevin, I'm pretty sure it came with a new one and was a total non-issue. I had to scrounge him a connector for the "position" switch, but he never asked about that one.

hmmm..guess i will just have to call around and find a pinion type speed sensor. I still don't get why the m/t in the salvage yard didnt have it either. O well, hopefully it will fit and work fine. My only concern is that my mechanic said he thought the speed sensor only has two wires and the place you plug it in has three. He said he could wire it though. Anyone know if its two or three wires?
At any rate, thanks for the help guys. I'll post when i get this sorted out.
