So there I am, driving out of our campus yesterday, when some dork in a Miata (all guys in Miatas are dorks by nature... ) pulls in the next lane, and speeds up so I can't move into the turning lane. So I speed up and move over anyway, which he apparently doesn't appreciate.

Anyway, turning onto the highway he's lining up like he's going to show me who's boss. Seeing this, I'm thinking "I wonder if I can actually suck that ragtop off his car when I crush him".

He pulls out and nails it, and I'm right behind him and do the same. He freakin' pulls me by about five lengths by the time we hit 60. I mean, this was a spanking - he was so far gone I was laughing.

I heard an exhaust (once he launched it), but he obviously did some other stuff too; he looked bone stock, but

There are NUMEROUS dirt cheap easy bolt-on turbo kits and a couple SC kits.

Those little stinkers can be VERY very surprising.

Interesting. Just yesterday i had this riced up Protege5 rev at me at a stoplight.

I looked at him and his head turned as if to say "no". I didn't bother. Light turns green and he squeals his tires. I didn't feel like racing at all but considering the squeals, his loud exhaust and his overall aggressive nature it sure took a while to see his taillights disappear on the horizon. All show and no go

 

A turbo or Supercharged Miata will run a 1/4 in mid to low 13's all day long.

Not only that, but it will romp any Max in the twisties no matter how modded the Max is.

Check out the Spec Miata class at SCCA. A basically stock Miata usually turns lap times that are only seconds off the Trans Am cars.

I used to be into Big Detroit Iron. Then I got educated about real sports cars. Go test drive a Miata you will find that is the most FUN car to drive that you have ever experienced.

Thanks for asking... Yeah everything is fine now... No pain and suffering... The insurance comp gave me 24hrs to strip all my mods. I pretty much stripped the whole car and put everything back to stock.. My cousin gave me his car so that'll help me save money... I still owed money on the car so I won't be getting any money back from insurance..

 

becasue everyone thinks of the miata as a chick car is the reason it is such a little v6, v8 killer. the miata's big brother is the rx7. and that car used to own the 300zx. If i needed a little comuter car that still had performance. the miata would be it. I wouldn't care what people thought. I would just spank those ***'s every chance i had. And have my wife in the car with me so she could laugh right along with me.

As a miata enthusiast, i guess all you people that call it a girly car never drove one yet. THe mazda miata couldn't be more of a race car.. Once you get in you forget about your ill handling maxima in no time flat.

By the way, the BP motor in the miata (same engine as it was on my old protege) is WAY stronger than ANY VQ motor interms of internals, and these suckers could produce easily 400hp with stock internals and handle boost of 15 PSI no problems.

THese miata motors (BP1.6 or BP1.8) are a closed deck requiring no sleeves and already come with oil cooled pistons and some of the earlier miatas came withe turbo plumbing already.

If you want a race car, a miata is a perfect track race car, and with a bit of boost, the car is hands down the easiest, and appealing car to drive. If you want to proclaim chick cars, then label the DelSOL or VW cabrio as a girls car, because a miata would trump your @ss on the track, and with boost trump you all day long at the drag strip. And i know you will tell me that a maxima with boost would do the same, but seriously, the miata's weight advantage, handling and strong motor shows all the advantages, and its also RWD...

You can buy a POS Geo Storm for just a grand, give it plenty of laughing gas, and it will take your SC'd Miata in the straight line. Just to bring out some sarcasm on your vigorous defense of Mazda while driving a Nissan. No flame intended. I would rather be seen in a Buick LeSabre rather than Mazda Miata, 'cause it is ghay.

You can take any car and trick it out to be fast. Miata's looks appeal more to single late 20's-early 30's women rather than men that are serious about performance, it just lacks the macho appeal. It Miata is considered a roadster while the Maxima is a premium middle-sized sedan.

I doubt you could get a Geo to ever pull 10's. There are dozens of street legal, stock internals Miatas pulling 12's. 11's and one guy is in the high tens. Most Miatas are much slower but then so are most Maximas.

As for the chick car comments, girls do love it. I fail to see how this is a problem. If it's more important to you to impress your other "boy" friends than to impress girls, then more power to ya.

I witnessed the whole incident (going back to 1999)...del sol was playin games, cut in front of escalade, jammed on brakes, and escalade couldn't stop in time and went RIGHT OVER del sol
