alright, about 1500 miles ago i got a tire rotation (i have about 13,500 miles on the car) and the guy said i need to get my tires replaced within the next 5000 miles...i have looked around and from talking to lots of people (and my own looking) i want toyo proxie t1-s's...they are my dream tires...just look at this tread...i dream about tread like this

alright, now that i'm done ranting...here is my dilemma...like most tire companies, they don't make 225/50...so should i go with 225/45ZR17 or 235/45ZR17...i know some of you say that 235 is too wide for stock rims, but i have heard of a number of people putting 235 width tires on the stock rims and that working out fine...if i decide to go with 225's however, my speedometer will be off by 1 or so mph (which i really don't mind)...should i be safe and go w/ the 225/45ZR17's or should i go w/ the 235/45's? i know wider is better for handling, but if the rim can't take it, it actually decreases performance...so can the 17x7" stock SE rim take the 235/45 tire or should i go with a 225/45ZR17?

Go with the 235/45. I have them on my car, no problems!

I heard some people say its fine to put 235/45
but it depends on the tire because each is different
some could even pop out if you take a hard turn
so its not a 100% safe

How come you have to replace your tires so soon, i thought a V rated tire could have about 30,000 miles on it

The tire looks PHAT though

I have owned one set of Z rated tires, a set of Dunlops on my RX-7. They were awesome performers. However, the Z's don't last nearly as long, or at least mine didn't.

Tire Size Conversion

If you wish to see what other tire sizes you can use without affecting your spedometer, go to:
http://www.dsm.org/tools/tiresize.htm
Enter the size of the original tire and you will receive a list of optional sizes of tires that will not affect your spedometer. Of course many of the sizes will be hypothetical.

Rim width is measured across the inside of the lip where the tire bead sits.

The 16" SE rims are advertised as 16 x 6.5. So far it seems no one has had problems putting the larger tire on the 17" rim. I guess time will tell.

Ok once and for all....The Maxima Wheel is posted as 17x7, but since I had to balance my wheels cause of the harsh NYC potholes I had to measure the true width of the rim to put the value into the balancing machine....and it turns out the maxima wheel is 8" wide.....I'm not sure if the advertised wheel width is measured another way, cause I've been noticing how wheels marked 16x6 turn out to be 6.5" wide when measuring the width via a caliper for rims.
Something to ponder about, but there should be no problem w/ mounting 235/45R17 tires on Maxima 17's.

-Peace
