...I know, I know for being 31 you figured I wouldn't go out looking to race but I was in one of those moods. This guy in a WRX pulls out at a light with a car between us, I didn't see him until that. Then we are rolling and he starts to take off - I did the same. Well, I had about a car or two on him the whole way then he shut down at about 70 or 80 MPH.

That WRX is a fast f-in car...I wish we had cars like that when I was 20

I ran into a blue WRX at lunch today. He had 30 day tags on it too. He took off like a bat outaa hell. We were dead even in 1st, In 2nd he Jumped ahead by 1/2 car lenght, and when I put it in 3rd I got 1 car ahead of him and then we shut it down.. gave me Thumbs up and went his way.

Not sure how he felt, he got this new Turbo car and still got beat by a N/A ... If I were him, I'ld be hitting some Import Mags and looking for some gofast Goodies.

 

yeah its a drivers race. from a highway i can beat a wrx in my 2k2 auto. from a stop i usually lose.

 

Indeed, WRX's will always own us off the line, but they're not hard to catch at all...

That said, whats with all the street racing threads and not being locked lately??? Moderators slippin... Especially on that 350z vs Maxima street racing thread that has been going for like a week now.

are u sure he was pushing it hard? you said it had temp tags and was a new car. not trying to take anything away from you, but a 2k 5speed max with bolt on's usually wont pull a car on a wrx. especially if you started in 1st gear. from a 1st gear stop a wrx would have normally had 2-4 cars on you by 3rd gear.

 

Almost got me a G35 Sedan on Saturday out on the hwy...too bad he thought I had a 2K2+ because of my damn headlights. He wanted to play BAAAAAAaad, but would hold back just as I started.

I would have got owned, but still would have been nice to see what I could do vs. the 5spd auto.

 

Indeed. I tell you though, the car is much faster than it looks. It's not my cup of tea now but back 10 years ago I would have had that all riced out!

 

This guy was churping gears in 1st 2nd and 3rd so I know he was trying hard. but Like I said, he took off fast but I got to him quick. WRX is a mid 14 second car. My car is low 14z so Its an accurate race IMO.

 

Alex, my nephew has a 03 G35 Sadan Auto. I drove it last weekend. its a fast car. I raced him and we were pretty much Dead Even. My 5spd His 5spd Auto.

 

Oh...I don't doubt that and I know he would have worked me(no mods). However, as you know our 5spd(probably even more with your mods) best power is 80mph-100mph. So, I'd just like to see what that auto gearing has compared to my Max's BEST jump.

The G35S trap speed is at least 5mph higher, so I knew he would pull, I just wanted to know HOW BAD.

 

Stock ones are a good match against 3.5 maximas, its just those damn modded ones that really smoke us.

Availability of parts are endless for scoobies.

2k2 6spd against WRX is a drivers race, but 2k 5 spd against a WRX is doubtful. Even with y-pipe and a catback, Max will become only high 14 sec car. WRX is mid 14 car stock.

there is KINGMAX, marcdown20, ladeesman, pezking4, and a couple others around the area. Hopefully we can have a nice sized meet around october when it cools off a little. I think calder will be heading too Nopi this year along with a few of the charlotte guys.

 

A WRX can be overtaken by a pre-2K2 max. A friend of mine has a Rex with plenty of mods. He dyno'd at ~230whp on the stock turbo. We went to the track and he ran everything from a 14.2 to a 14.9. The car is capable of much lower times but it is in the driver. Seeing as this guy still had temp tags on his car, this isn't a far-fetched story at all.

 

Anyone else find it hard to believe that a stock WRX is chirping the gears? I watched quite a few lower 13-second WRXs at the track and lots of them on video and none of them chirp on any shifts. They get wheelspin off the line, but that's it. Maybe you were mistaking the turbo "chirp" that occurs between shifts as wheelspin.

As for running low 14s, you're not running low 14s till you have that slip in your hand

I just built a Supra turbo motor from the ground up... Never heard of any turbo's chirp, just BOVs

If the wrx driver just keeps his foot on the gas the entire time, it'll probably chirp.

Not to bash you Pioneer, I don't think a WRX will chirp 3rd, maybe 2nd if highly modded. AWD just hooks. I did see the eclipse from Extreme out of MD do that but that is a sub 9-sec car....

 

Not from a roll...they are fast 0-60 cars, but after that or out on the hwy the Max will own.

Add a stage 2-4+ XS package and it's a different story..

 

Every race and Every car is a Different story. It hard to get All 4 tires to chirp, and I don't think he chirped all 4 but he chirped somthing b/c I was right next to him.

 

Do the WRX's vary the distribution of power to the front and rear wheels? I'm not if they have it, but I assume they do. Maybe only the fronts chirped due to the power transfer or something? Who knows... could have hit a patch of sand too.

Love the supra engine built in the livingroom too... toss that engine in the maxima with some turbos... be like a bat out of hell. is the engine going back into a Supra though?

 

its already back in the car, got 77 miles on it and then I blew a fuse and Dead in water.. Trying to figure out the short in the system.

Inline 6 won't fit under the maxima hood.

 

WRX is low to mid 14sec car, according to "useless" mag specs.
I believe an AWD WRX will beat almost ANY FWD Max in first gear alone; Revving up to 4k and dropping/slipping the clutch will shoot you out of the hole faster than any Max.
If someone is beating a WRX off the line, they either have some ridiculous mod, but chances are that the WRX driver doesn't know what he's doing.

 

 

AWD cars have a Launch Advantage.. 4 Wheels pushing are better then 2.
In the Maxima 2 Wheels Pulling the car b/c the car is so much heavier, so its easier to spin tires.

Once both cars are rolling, it should be a good race.
