GT prevails. Blah!

Didn't think GT mustangs could pull so well from an 80mph rolling start. Traveling on the 5 northbound I come across a silver GT mustang, we weave through traffic playing chase until around crown valley exit that our lanes open up. From dead even at 80 to 110 he pulled 2 car lengths. Couldnt tell if it was modded or not, just had wierd aftermarket tail-lights that were all red. Next, I need to go against one from a stop. It should be a close match. What a difference it would make for me if I just had another 20hp.

Mustang GT's are pretty good about staying in their power band pretty much all the way to the 140+ top speed. I traded my '99 GT for my '02 Maxima because the Maxima offered so much more, but the Mustang was faster. I don't know why so many people on this board think Mustangs are slow--they're not.

If we're talking about 99+ GTs, they've got PLENTY of topend and more than enough to walk a 6 speed. Look at the average 1/4 MPH between a 6 speed Max (~96mph) and a 5 speed GT (~100mph). My 4th gen doesn't have a lack of topend (almost 100mph in the 1/4), but I still almost always get walked in the topend by 99+ GT 5 speeds.

You're CRAZY, good luck on that though. Mustang's will eat us alive out of the hole. I'm turboed and they still tear me a new ***. Doesn't matter though, our top end makes up for our lack of rwd ownage launches.

Hah, well on second thought maybe it wont be close, if im lucky the driver wont know how to drive. I had the impression that mustangs had great low end but weak top end, apparently that is not the case. Still, rear drive V8 is too good of a setup against fwd.

You think a reverse launch will give me an advantage? Heh it'll be a one gear race, we make 30 mph runs.

Are you asking, or stating? The GT is still a 2 valve. And the 05 GT will be a 3 valve with variable timing.

The auto 99+ isnt that fast IMO and definately not quick on a highway run. The gearing isnt that great, the manual is another story.

Thanks are you a 6spd, you might get me, the same day a guy in a 02 6spd ran a 14.29@ 98.01 and 1 350 Performance 6spd ran a 14.02@100.12. He drove the **** out of it. I am a realist and if you can drive that 6spd you can take the auto 350 slightly(only reason I have autos is because of my wife),I did have a few traps in the 96-97 mph area that day as well.

The difference in the auto 02/03 Max vs the 350 auto is in the top end in the low end they pull very close its just up high were the 350's get us. Its the better gearing and aerodynamics come into play. If you catch an auto 350 slipping you might get him until he gets into the higher speeds or get a few mods and it will be alot closer. The Dyno's I have seen from some 350's alot of them arent making the hp claimed thats true.

I actually didnt have any expectations running against the GT, I was just suprised when his tail lights grew smaller and smaller. It would be wonderful to see stealin's headers put out more than the rumored 5 hp. I got no problem losing to coupes, theres no glory in beating a sedan!

Mustang is a two door muscle car. Our Maxima's are four door. Mustangs are just plain inside. Mustangs have the same radio that I had in my 89 Ford Probe (drunk driver killed it).
