2k2/2k3 Cams: The 350Z cams fit us

This is taken from Nissan Performance Magazine online in the "Ask Sarah" section. Not sure if this has been determined before, but the cams DO fit the 2k2/2k3 Maximas... wish I had the money

"Could the Cam upgrades for the 350Z work on the 2K3 Maxima?

The new Nismo VQ35 cams fit all VQ35's except the one found in the Pathfinder. Although they weren't dyno'd on a Maxima yet, they gave 14 hp at the wheels on the 350Z."

I'm assuming because of FWD. Less drivetrain loss. But then again, the Z breathes better so i'm not sure we'll get 14hp.

at least with the Z out parts are being made for the 3.5 VQ. Glad I have that engine... now i just wish the Maxima engine was mounted like the Z's. then everything would fit. But cams are a pretty serious mod, and 14 WHP means like 17 or 18 to the crank. Impressive. between those and the headers that might someday come out, we're looking at 2 "bolt ons" that add 30 or so crank HP. the 300 crank HP mark looks attainable

a cam is hardly a bolt-on.

ya, hardly a bolt on is right. but putting it on involves bolts j/k. if I had the mechanical know-how I'd do the cams, but I'm just not that skilled

You know, the write ups on the cams for the 350z do make mention to changes in driveability. You may be able to squeeze another .2 out of your track time, but not being able to idle sometimes will suck.

There are 3-different grind TOMEI cams for the Maxima.

Only about $1K...plus the install is going to cost near that.
