Nissan Paint Problems

Hey this isn't funny, My car is going back to the dealer for some paint problems. It's a 2003 Maxima SE 6 Speed and the rear bumper is fading and the left drivers side quarter panel has blotching in it. It looks like they messed up the paint job somewhere down the line. Also the door handles, one side has the black rubber sealers and the other side is painted. The dealer was mystified about this and is going to have a Nissan Rep come to the dealer and look at it to see if the whole car needs to be re painted. Thats what I asked for, no touch up painting , if it needs to be painted I want the whole car redone to profection. So we will see what happens. Well while writing this Nissan called me and I have an appointment to bring it to the dealership this Friday to be looked at by a Nissan Rep.

I am not suprised, Nissan has one of the worst quality paint I have seen.

Here is what my hood looks like!

mine front end looks like yours except with fewer scratches, Maximan
Any news on the class-action regarding this topic? I've remembered signing up for it back then.

Yeah, I just touched my bigger chips up today with a black Vis-a-Vis marker. Does a decent job since it has a blue tint to it after it dries. Really sux that I'm gonna have to pay outta pocket to get the whole front end repainted eventually

Same problems here, except mine is only 3 months old. I wrote a post about a month or so back about bird crap cracking my paint. I know it is acidic but it shouldn't do that to clear coat finish. And my wheels are stained with some black substance. My only problem was that I waited 2 months before I washed it and noticed these things, I know that's considered a crime to most of you folks, oh well.

I had my appointment with the "paint inspector" aka God, this last friday. My contact man from the dealership was like, "if you see the paint inspector around your car, don't try and go talk to him, he doesn't deal with customers, he will walk off." I was thinking to myself, "What a bunch of *******s, you call this customer service?" Not only that but he was an hour late, my appointment was for 11:00 and he didn't get started till about 11:45. I watched them out there laughing to each other, they were probably saying, "hell yeah, we screwed another poor sap out of his money." Well, after this incident if they don't treat me right or fix the problem I will never buy another Nissan again. I still haven't filled out the dealership customer service questionaire, i'm waiting for the paint inspector's results this tuesday before i have my fun with that. I will take all necessary steps to crush "the man" if they don't please me. I will call the national hotline, write complaint letters, and maybe even call the Gwinett County Sheriff's office and request a picketing permit and picket the dealership one Saturday, that should get their attention. I'll let ya'll know how it goes.

Well this Friday i go and they advised me that I had to drop off the car and they will call me back after the Nissan Rep looks at it. I don't care what they say, if they don't satisfy me all I will do is get my own lawyer and sue the dealership for selling me a defective car. I am sure the dealer will either bite at this and say ok we will get it re painted or they will say sue us. If they do say sue, forget about as being a Police Officer I know a few top lawyers in this state that would love to make headlines with the suit. Anyways, good luck to everyone and there paint problems!!!

You should do a search (test forum) for paint; it'll have some comments on your best shot to get the car repainted. Pretty sure I can predict what response you're going to get:

Paint guy will report "paint looks fine - just rock chips"
Nissan warranty will say "sorry, not covered"

Guess you can try a lawsuit after that, in which case the dealer / Nissan may settle (your best bet), or they'll run the paint inspector in, who will testify that a) the paint is within specs, b) rock chips happen to all cars, and c) rock chips aren't covered under warranty. But hey, I'm not a lawyer, what do I know - maybe I'm completely wrong.

Anyway, it IS possible to get your front-end repainted at no charge (I did), so my advice is to do the search, read the threads, and work it through. And BTW, the paint job my dealer did is holding up much better than the factory paint...

But put on a clear bra for extra protection, I've had a few things ping off of it.

Yeah my 03 has some serious nicks when I sported it without the Nose Mask, I will keep the Nose mask on it most of the time from now on. My 350 has some nicks as well wehn we sported it without the mask as well same situation as the Max. The paint quality isnt the best, they need to beef it up especially on the front end!

I dont have to wash mine that much I wipe it down daily with a clean towel and with the Cali duster. I wipe down water spots and other little spots with a wet towel its much easier this way try it out.

Slow down

First off, your right. The paint on this gen ain't good. My wife's 5th gen looks like hell after two years.

There is a class action lawsuit in the works (search) BUT as you will learn later in life: The only winners in court are LAWYERS. That is why they are called LAWYERS. So before you see a lawyer and get your inner child stroked and hugged who'll say everything is alright and your right and right away sir, THINK.

Talk with the dealership and work with them. just my two cents

Yeah its not the quality actaully started slipping with the late model 4th gens 97-99, my 97's front end was pretty bad when I traded it in. It wasnt so much nicks on that one but it looked sandblasted.

Well it will be kinda hard the for the Nissan Rep or the Paint Guy to say its rock chips. Heres how I can explain it, ever get really tan and then have it peel on you so it turns out to look very blotchy looking. Well thats how my front drivers side quarter panel looks. As far as the rear bumper, well that looks like whoever painted it missed a bunch. For example, you paint a room say a darker color over the hite alreay there. After it dries you can really tell it was painted over. Thats how the bumper looks. The the nail in the coffen is the passenger side door handles have a black rubber piece that goes all the way around the door handle assembly. Well on the drivers side those black rubber seal or gromet is paintd. So its pretty obvious the car was repainted or wasn't painted correctly. The best part which I forgot to say is that when the sun is on the car, you can see the sanding marks. Whoever sanded the vehicle didn't do a good job thats for sure. So I believe I have a great case and if they do what you think they might, well I know being a Police Officer and Knowing some great Lawyers I will at least make it hell for the dealership. Hey by the way, the dealership can afford a $5,000 paint job thats for sure with all the money they make!!!!

My 2k has reached stage one of their commercial, where the paint starts peeling of the car.

The hood is the worst. It looks like numerous star patterns around a circle, all over the front center section of the hood. It looks like my hood got 1 friggin coat of paint. I swear, it's so thin. Nissan is kickin my *** all the way to the bank.

They F U, they F U, they F U.
