G35 heavier???

I was just looking at the specs of the 2003 Infiniti G35 coupe on edmunds.com, and I noticed that it was listed as being heavier than the 2003 Maxima.

2003 Maxima (Auto)
Curb Weight: 3274 lbs.
Gross Weight: 4295 lbs.

2003 G35C (Auto)
Curb Weight: 3442 lbs.
Gross Weight: 4360 lbs.

What do you guys think...is this right? How could a car that is so much smaller and more compact actually weigh more than the Max?

I have a 2003 G35 sedan and a 2000 Maxima. The G35 is actually
longer than the Max. It has a longer wheelbase. The interior is very
close to the size of the Max. I can't speak for the 2003 Maxima, don't
know the differences between 2000 and 2003. Don't be decieved
about the size of the G35. It can carry 4 adults with comfort.
When traveling long distance, I prefer the Max. As for the G35 coupe,
yes, it is actually heavier than the sedan. Remember...it has 4 seats.

I researched this before I bought my G35C. The G35 sedan is 186.5" in length, and the 2003 Maxima is 191.5", five inches longer. And I'm sure the 2000 Max is about the same as the 2003.

And the Maximia certainly has more volume inside.

OK, but the point is the G35 is not a little miata type of car.
Looks can be decieving.

Since size is often little more than airspace in a thin skin, I would concentrate more on drivetrain components, structural rigidity parts and weight, etc....even things like sound deadening materials, etc. can add up quickly in the 'lbs.' department.

Well, its not little like a miata. A g35c is *slightly* more practical than a miata, but not by much. The rear seats are a pain to access and many people cannot fit back there without hitting their heads on the back glass, 5'9" or so I think. Another thing is that when you release the seat to access the rear, the seat backs do not return to where you left them. The seat bottom will go back to where you had it, but not the back... A real annoyance. So, you'll use the trunk before throwing anything in the back seat.

The maxima to a coupe or Z is not a very practical path for most. You should really spend some time getting to know a Z or GC before taking that plunge. A GC can be used a roadtripper like the max, just dont take more than 1 person with you and go easy on the luggage.

I agree with TimW. The back seats in the G35 coupe are strictly for kids or a short trip with
adults. My decision to get the coupe included that factor, as I concluded that I would rarely have
an occasion to use the back at all, but the coupe was better looking and more fun to drive than the
sedan. In the two weeks I’ve had the car I haven’t been disappointed.
