I am not sure... but I've seen now like three or more guys saying they looked at trading in their max... and only offered 16-18K for it... why are you looking at trading it in?

I think the maxima is a great car.

I don't know why their trading in their maxima's either. It's a very nice car with alot of potential. Hey Hawaiis, This is Tom GXE no loner I30 and I just got some Eibach springs. I remember you telling me about a place in Santa Barbara where you got them installed. How much, how long did it take them and where did you get them installed. Thanks again for your time... Tom

For me... I want a 5 speed. I got an auto so my wife could drive it and for traffic. For that I'm trading off control and quickness. My wife is willing to learn now and I think the traffic thing I can handle. This fall I hope to make my move; either the new 3.5 SE-R Maxima with 6 speed. (According to some) or possibly a Passat 1.8T or 3.0 V6 Passat with 5 speed manual.

Why not upgrade your tranny? With a VB upgrade?

I've thought of that. I even talked to Don about it about it last summer. It would make the car a bit quicker, but still wouln't give me the control of a 5 speed. The downside to that is that it can void the warranty. If I hang onto my car afterall, the VB upgrade will go into it after the basic warranty is up.

Trade your Max?

I can understand if you're going upmarket, or trading for a newer max with more features, etc. But, let me tell you, just arriving in Ct. and getting in my rental Taurus, which actually at first I thought was a Contour, my Max looks better and better! I thought "Contour" cause it was small (too cold here to pay attention to what I was getting into), then I thought "...hey, the contour dash looks a lot like a taurus..", then, duh...this IS a Taurus...as soon as I hit the accelerator and heard that course engine noise, I knew. And in these cars, it's like the dash board is this huge, massive, wall of china thing in your face...make me claustrophobic..

Well, at least it is a better ride than the Grand Marquis I had last time; no back support left me ailing!

Can't wait to get back to my Max!

.... the Passat 3.7 v8 with a 6-speed, according to the March issue of Motor Trend it will be out in the fall but no mention on the price yet... just another option.

I too am sick of the slushbox. Also, I want a smaller car... the max is a bit big for my tastes. I want more power and better handling. I was making 44k when I got my max and I'm making 56k now. I can afford and want a better car. Not that maxes are trash or anything, I've just had enoug problems with my car and Nissan service in general that I really want a bimmer (m3) or audi (s4).

That sounds very interesting. That's something else to add to my list. I have it narrowed downt to VW and Nissan though. I'm trying to keep my purcahse to ~$27,000. No more than 30, if possible.

1) Maxima SE-R 3.5 VQ, manual, (if it happens)
2) Passat with Audi V6 and 5 speed
3) Passat with W8 and 6 speed
4) Passat with 1.8T 5 speed and chip (200 HP, 240 Torque)
