Problem with my 02 SE MT this morning

On the way into work I had a problem with my SE. I was driving down this road when a 99 Corvette came up from behind me and I couldn't resist trying. He easily walked me and by the time we hit 70 or so suddenly my car dies on me and the dreaded SES light came on. After pulling over I restarted the car but it drove horribly (stalling, no power, etc.). At this point I was convinced that either I over-revved it forcing it into failure mode (I almost never go above 5K and this time I went up to at least 6K before shifting) or more likely, a victim of the dreaded MAF failure.

After waiting interminably to get through to AAA, I started the car again. This time the engine revved fine, no stalls, and the power was fine but still the SES light was on. I drove the car to Nissan and dropped it off for service.

I just got a call from the service manager who tells me that my gas
pedal actuator is bad. Apparently they tested it and it is not responding properly. This sounds hard to believe as the car worked fine before and after the initial failure. My experience with this dealership has been mostly positive although I had a few bad cases. Hopefully they are correct. I have to wait till tomorrow as they don't have the parts in stock.

This was also a good opportunity to have them look over a couple of other items that I was noticing (the driver side piller tweeter wasn't working, and the hestitation TSB). Hopefully everything will be fine tomorrow. Wish me luck.

There was a TSB for this a long while ago related to the gas pedal..

If you floor it, it will cause a SES and a limp home mode..

I had the TSB for the pedal done. That TSB was a simple stop that prevented the pedal from getting stuck. The dealer said the actuator (rheostat) had to be replaced.

I thought this was a MAF failure at first. I took my intake off quite awhile ago (thankfully). I had them do the hesitation TSB and they said they had to replace the MAF as part of that service.

Hopefully everything is fixed now; I'll find out later today.
