Interesting Thread
There is some discussion going on in the General Forum about a tranny mod that essentially boosts line pressure to the maximum giving harder, quicker shifts. Here is one of the threads:

What do you guys think? It's easy enough to hook up. I have a few potentiometers lying around at home so I may try it. Definitely looks interesting though. The poor mans VB mod...

My bad... actually I thought it was the another post about the tranny where the person disconnected something (forgot what it was called, but I know what it is). It sounds interesting, but
Just don't turn it all the way to the left for too long.

Well, after a day of driving with this setup...I love it. I have it set just a little firmer than stock. It takes all the hesitation out of the shifts without make them super harsh and clunky like when I turn it all the way up. Still have the MIL glaring at me though...
mzmtg,
Which valve are you fooling with your setup? I looked at the ESM, and there are several "valves" which seem to control parts of the same thing. The AT part of the ESM is pretty involved, complicated at times.
Do you have more specifics as to what you did?

They did something similar on TV
Check out Crank and Chrome from 2 weeks ago.

They used a device to increase the line pressure, causing the tranny to shift quicker and more firmly. They recommended a trans oil cooler to go with it.

Here's what I'm gonna do. Since this "mod" is setting off my MIL, I'll just grab the code and see what it means. This should give me an idea as to what part of the tranny control this is affecting. I should have results this afternoon...after class.
This sounds very similar to the B&M Electric Shift Improver that is out there for variuos GM and other trannies. I have it installed on my 95 Caprice LT1, and the sole purpose is to electronically fool the PCM into applying a much higher line preassure all the time. The result are quick shifts.
The B&M attaches to two lines on the PCM so I'm not sure if the process here is identical or not, but the B&M has been used for years by many people with no side effects.
Good luck

The difference here is that the TCM isnt just raising the pressure, it is failing safe and applying maximum pressure all the time. This works great for full throttle upshifts, but it makes all part throttle shifts extremely jerky and rough...Hence the switch.
There is a shift improved kit available for our Maximas, similar to the B&M product. See my parts page, and look at the "transmission" section: http://www.fourthrock.com/maxima/2k_parts_list.html
One day I am going to purchase and install, but it is too low on my list at the moment.
