Either I'm not reading this correctly, or you made an error somewhere. 36 months * $300 = $10,800 + $14,000 down = $24,800. You're paying less than what you purchased the car for, including interest?

Can you say balloon payment?

I'm not preaching here, but please NEVER take a cash loan from a car dealer again. Our cars are upside down as is without throwing an extra $7k in the mix.

Your mileage may vary, but I'd never be able to unload that car without taking a serious hit.

Paid 22,000 for the car, all taxes/etc. included, including the 4,500 I owed on my old car. 2000 SE fully loaded had 35k miles on it. Got a loan at 4.79% for 60 months through Capital One Auto Finance, paying $413.75 a month.

Totally paid for . . .

What's a 2k2 worth these days . . . I plan on selling it . . . not sure to get a black 04 Max or a red G35 Coupe. money talks here, I like both, but I can get the Max for about $9K less. For that $9K I can add what I want to the Max!!! The final performance numbers should be close!

That's a very good point. With the quick depreciation values we have been seeing, GAP insurance is a must....

I'm at 2.9% 60 months = $516 per month.

This is for a completely loaded '03 SE w/o navi

I could have easily paid cash for the car, but that money is all wisely invested earning more then 2.9% per year. I left the money alone and financed the entire cost of the car. I didn't put a penny down. I even financed the tax.

Sometimes it makes sense to finace as much as possible. Even a monkey can find a no-risk investment at around 2% these days, and I think lost oppurtunity costs for most people is around 2-3% / year (what it's worth to you to keep the cash in hand). So anything below 3 or 4 % is like free money.
