Was driving home to the city at about 1:30 am, ie, open roads.
A 2k4 Max slides onto the highway from and on ramp and gets up to 75 quick. Thats all for a while until I notice him coming up fast behind me. He slows a bit, and i accelerate- we end up side by side at about 85. I drop to 4th gear and point foward- we both open up. He gave a jump on me by about 95, but from then on I pulled on him. We ended up with some serious speed, and i let off the throttle first. As soon as he saw me slow down, he did too. In the end, I was about 3/4 of a car in front of him. We gave each other a thumbs up and went abot our drives at reasonable speeds. (My only mod is a Frankencar with Apexi, unless you count the unorthodox udp- still in box, random cat- still in box, or Stealin rear section/muffler-stillin box)

 

Could you tell if the 04 was a manual? If not, it seems impressive for an auto that's over 100 lb heavier and supposedly 10 more hp. The 04 may be more of a competitor than some think.

i could not tell if it was a manual, and although I havnt heard of a 2k4 being dyno'd, I know nissan overrated the 2k2/2k3 hp by 15! We dyno the same as alti's. I'm assuming that it was a manual if i got it on the highway when it has all that extra power (if it does in fact have tht mch more: I DONT TRUST NISSAN ANYMORE!!)

 

I raced a 2k4 SE with my 6spd last night too. The result was much different however, he didn't know how to line up, so i had my gear ready and when he passed me at 80 mph I had my fourth gear ready for him and a few seconds later I was about 2 car lenghts in front of him.

By the way I said a few secods because I don't want to get flamed for the speed I got my car up to. Most people won't but there's always a few.

 

i ran a 14.644 in my auto 04 max se. i would think it could hang with a 6spd 02

 

I was just going to say there is a guy in a auto 04 that ran mid 14s. And thats YOU! Again, i am impressed with your times!

 

Again, congratulations on the time, but I think "hanging" with a 02-03 6MT would be dependent on who's driving the 5th gen.

 

i almost had a run in with an 04 se but it ended up being a middle aged man who i guess just wanted to swerve in and out of traffic with me, then we had open lane and he didn't bite.

 

I know power and straight line speed play a big part with have a maxima... but will the 2004 drastically out handle a 2003/2002 cause of the rear suspension? just curious.... thanks

 

I wouldnt use drastically. the rear on the 04 is better, but both cars are still boats..

 

Looks like you beat me to the punch. I really doubt that a 2K4 auto can run with the 2k2/3 6MT at hight speeds.

 

hey thanks alot, took some practice, but i got there, the car is good for a 14.4 i think totally stock..

 

The udp, cat, muffler would be doing you just as much good on my max.

 

If you run 14.4s in your 04, you have a factory special! maybe on slicks!

 

nobody thaught the 04 can do 14.6s so i really dont know. alittle cooler i think i can pull it off. i have done a 2.1 60ft..

I need to take my 04 back to the track. It feels a lot stronger now. I also have 5x the miles I had at my first run at the track.

your right guys im sorry im just having a bad day at work,and i take things personal when i have a bad day.. sure next time i go ill let u know... and u are right the car is very very hard to launch the right way, i never thaught an auto can me so tough to launch, i could understand stick but auto.. i figured u can just floor it nope no good at all.. i takes alot of practice, but at the same time u dont wanna practice to much and beat on the car... again im sorry guys i really like this site its very informative.... and i have nothing against u 5th gen guys at all.. i love th 5th gen, i just so happen to have a 6gen,, i dont think one is better than the other..

 

believe me i was shocked with the 2.1 my friend with his 98 cobra with drag radials gets 2.0s and 2.1s i was amazed, but i did get a 14.699 with a low 2.2, the 14.644 was with the 2.1... trust me guys i will try my best to post the slips, i want u guys to believe me, there is a guy on here that saw me do it.. he was there and saw all the runs...

 

So you now see how "amazed" we are.

No you may be able to hang with an 02/03 Auto with your times being similiar to mine and afew other stock 02/03 autos. A well driven 02 manual will beat ya out like an 04 manual which has been timed slower than the 02 manual.

 

The 2k4's may be slower, but not a whole lot slower (at least at high speed). It took me from about 95 to 125 to get a car on him at least almost a car- it may have been more, but i as really payig more attention to what was in front of me- at that speed what's in front of you ends up behind you QUICK) From a stop, I've layed the smack down on at least one 2k4 who was pushing it, but at higher speeds I was happy(and a little suprised) to see a win on my part.
