Since I had read NISMO was going to come to our side of the pond in 04, I've been waiting and wondering regarding prices for upgrade parts. My hope is that NISMO doesn't concentrate exclusively on their rear drive platforms and throw us fwd guys a bone...

$1500 for cams ! I imagine they bump crank hp by at least 15-25 hp.

Cam and header package sounds sweet right now ! I would take the trusty plastic out on something like that.

Anybody with a guestimate on approx labor costs for the cams ??

Forgive me if Im wrong, but when NISMO does join the NISSAN name in the US, will they provide dealer support and warranties as far as parts install and repair, ala Chrysler-PVO ? As I remember reading, you can get the SRT-4 and upgrade the engine in stages, all with dealer support and warranties !

 

The cams will cost at least 600 to install. While you are at it, get some titanium springs and retainers so you will be able to safely rev higher once the new ECU's come out.

There is no such thing as a titanium valve spring.

There is also little to no reason to buy titanium retainers when the stock VQ35 retainers are made of a lighter aluminum alloy unless you're building a fully race bred engine. Yes, aluminum alloys are lighter than Ti.

Do you think it would be ok to rev to say 7500 with the stock springs on there or would run into problems? Also, are you up and running again man?

There is no need to rev it that high. The 3.5 starts to run out of breath at around 6200-6300rpm and revving it up to 7K alone would be considered overkill IMO. Now off 1st gear It should be fine but Im not too sure if its worth it after that...unless you got boost

 

I guess I was assuming that if you are willing to spend the money and do the work to get the cams, you will prolly eventually have other mods that would make the 7000 rpm redline a nice feature. But if you only had say cams, intake, exhaust you are 100% correct sir.

I thought the crak code only works with 2k3 max, not the 2k2......for some really weird reason. they use differennt type of ecu chips or something.
Correct me if I'm wrong tho......I too wish my max can do ECU upgrade.

i think the ECU thread pointed out that the engines start bending rods at like 7299 or 7300 RPMs. Thats connecting rods- bcause the vq35 is a long stroke motor.

Like i mentioned on that thread, i am contacting some custom cam makers to possibly produce these cams for less. I contacted them before these cams were out, but they didn't want tto mak cams because of R&D costs... problem solved!

BTW, the cams carry no warrenty... and ae very aggressive, and are designed for the 350 Z... but like i said, I'm looking into it...

I'm just waiting on an E-mail. Last time it took about 4 days, they get a lot of E-Mails, but they're very accomodating.
