Z28 run

my friend recently had his z28 camaro put back in order. functional again after a long period of storage he wanted to take it out for a run. the car is mostly stock, minus an intake and header mods. additionally its an auto. knowing that i'd get demolished off the line we opted for a freeway rolling start. at about 60 mph and 3rd gear we take off at the same time, by the time i reach 80 mph and shift into 4th he's already passed me entirely and gaining more distance... from that i concluded that any further runs would be futile What a torque monster! All curiousity i had left with competing against 8 cylinders dissipated. Im perfectly content with just pwning non force induced 4 bangers and weak 6's (maaybe auto GTs) hah for those of you capable of challenging vehicles of that caliber, i'm sure you get a strong sense of gratification doing so haha. lates.

well, can't say it was a nice run, but at least you didn't lose any $$$ on it.

what year was his Z28?

Actually the older Cobras you could probably take with some mods.
In 95 they ran 14.9 with a 5spd. A new 02/03 6spd runs 14.6 both numbers from C&D. The GTs are junk. Did you know the 03 3.8 V6 mustangs only have 195 hp.

I believe his year was a '94 or '95 before they went with the wrap-around headlight style. Betting $$$ would be a terrible gamble on my part haha.

I fear no domestic 6-cylinder muahahaha (well except for the Chevy Trailblazer motor... 270hp!!! ) It seems like the American motor companies can't produce a high output 6 cylinder motor without using blowers. Pontiac GTP, Chevy Impala...

Yeah when I first got my 02 for fun I raced an SS and he ripped me a new one. Not only did he pull on me and just kept on going. Once he was probably 8 cars ahead I stopped. Those cars are monsters.

I have an '02 Auto SE as well, and what I'm trying to figure out is, why did you shift into 4th so early? I run 3rd up to at least 90 or so. No wonder he was pulling away from you so easily.

Anybody here think a 2k2 6spd with a 75 wet shot has a chance against a Z28 or an SS? Maybe a 125 shot with an upgraded fuel pump and FPR?

Questions, Comments, Queries, Concerns, Quizzes?

I think you would have a shot agains a stock Z-28, not the SS though.

92-97 F body (Camaro/Firebird) LT1 V8 270hp/305tq
98+ F body LS1 V8 310hp/345tq (They actually dyno 305whp)

The Ram Air doesnt really do anything... maybe 5-8hp max which is the only motor performance difference between the SS and the Z28. So the stock LT1s are within reach with say headers (based on claimed gain), catback and an intake. I wouldnt bother with the LS1 unless you are juiced or FI and some other junk.

I think they run 13.6 stock an SS 6spd. Make sure your not racing one that is SC though; my friend has a 00 SC SS that runs 10s.
