What Y'all Think

what do you all think it is?

i have a 2000 MAX GXE and my service light turned on this morning on my way from school. my odometer is at 63750. the car runs fine. i don't feel anything wrong with it. should i just take it to the dealer and get it checked?

thx in advance for any help.

Getting codes checked at the dealer is not free. It's 80 dollars at my dealer just to hook it up. Take ur car to Autozone and get the codes pulled for free. Some autozones will use the newer OBD II scanner that will tell you what's wrong, and some may have the old ones that just gives u the code. In that case, get the code and if u cant find out what the problem is come back here and post ur code.

Unplug your negative battery terminal overnight and it should go away.

If there is something really wrong with your car, the SES will not go away after resetting (or it will come back again almost immediately).

If it comes back on after you've unplugged your battery then something probably is not right.

That's strange on your 80 buck cost, mine is 50 bucks just to hook up to the diagnostic machine but I'd definitely say take it in. It is better safe than sorry.

My car started sputtering the other day and then it ran fine, so I thought I'd have it checked, turns out my MAF had failed after 145K on the original.

It's a good thing to have something abnormal checked right away because you may end up breaking something else as a result of not fixing the small problem first and then end up paying more in the long run.
