Borrow a wet kit for 'insurance'
Don't most MBs start out in 2nd gear unless you hammer the snot out of it from the start. Don't run on the roll. The MB will eat you alive.

i dunno - the Benz is heavy. True, its a highway machine, made for the autoban and such, but i dont think you'd have any trouble keeping up... but then again his 5 speed does help. dunno, its only $20 - go have fun

I hate to say it but if he can drive....I think you lost your $20. It is about 500 lbs heavier than the Max...but V8, 4.3 liter, 275hp and 295 tq thats a lot of power....good luck though! Let us know how it turns out.

GM,

I think you can take him. He's heavier and you'll have an edge right at
the beginning. Make sure you pay attention to the light. The quicker
you react the farther you'll get. He will catch up to you but not before
you've beaten him. Good luck and enjoy the $20

Mike

a good friend of mine has an E430 sport. i drive it quite a bit. i highly doubt that any auto max can take this thing. forget about highway...you may be able to take him on the launch...but when i used to drive the E430, that thing would seriously just BOLT when it hit the end of first gear.

yeah, those are a little heavier but our cars are underrated as well. it's a small wager though...just have fun with it win or lose

Those E430's are fast. Run him and see what happends anyway. 20 bucks isn't a whole lot. You might suprise yourself or you might be 20 bucks in the whole!

Let us know how it turned out. My mom has a E430 and it runs 0-60 in 6.2 on a full tank of gas. Yes Mercedes does start in 2nd gear, but that is if you switch it to "Slippery" mode. There is two mode, one mode for snow/slippery driving and the other mode is for regular driving. For the snow/slippery mode it starts at 2nd gear.
Just because a car is heavier doesn't really mean it's slower. The torque in that car is enormous! Stay safe!

I wonder if the Merc has traction control and if it can be defeated with a pulled fuse.

I would think with that hp, RWD and a braked torqued start, it will be bye-bye for the maxima.

Yeah I know. I ran a S430, yeah alot heavier, and I had him for a while from 45-110, but after that forget it. At 115,I felt the autobahn bred wrath as the S430 passed me doing an easy 130+
However.
Cheating will do wonders to an ego.
I finally caught up with him, 2 exits down and 'squeezed' on him. It was no contest from 65-130 I put a train length on the S430.

I know. NA I was close up til higher speeds.
On the funny gas, I would provide a nice romping.
I tangled with an E55. I regretted it.

GreekMaxima don't forget to disconnect that tranny resistor plug,it might help you out,and keep the tire peel out to the minimum, with a good launch you should be able to take him up to 80 or 90 mph, play safe and have fun.

I did too; on the NJ Turnpike. It was the previous gen E55 (still very fast) and he would only go as fast I would go; no faster. How's that for mind games?!?

Peace

you got a chance here

dont get nervous cuz then you'll spin out and that's not good cuz you'll loose. our 3.5 are veryyy quick off the line, we have about 265 torque and we weightmuch less. his V8 will help him but mostly at high speeds. get there on an empty tank. maybe even take your spare out
manaul shift, turn the TCS off, turn off the A/C, radio and everything else that uses power. if its cold out then you gain with the intake so that will help you also

goodluck and dont sweat it, its only 20 bucks

Speaking of intake during the cold...anyone really notice a difference when it's 85 outside vs 40 outside with their intakes?

When i race somebody always use this plan... but no manual shift --is not good for the tranny--

an E430 should be about as close as I was to this S500 one time...

I was tailing him, and he switched lanes and gunned it. We got to 85 in a 45 zone, (from about 20mph) and I gained on him, but not much. I stated about 1/2 a car length behind him (while tailing him) and we ended up with my front tires even with his back tires (after he changed lanes)

So an E430 is lighter than an S500...but the S500 has more power...

I think it should be real close.

Actually I don't think the extra weight effects mercedes' engine too much. I've driven both the E430 and the S430, I couldn't feel any major difference. Haven't really checked the stats, but they both feel very fast.
